Oh one more thing. Try putting a slice of potato in your bin and at the soil layer of any of you potted plants for like a day. If the gnats aren't going away they are laying somewhere. Larva chill in the first couple inches of moist soil/loam etc. The potato slice should attract any larva...
I forgot the mention the best place to get small amounts of these at a reasonable price is going to be Arbico Organics. You will likely still have more than you need for one cage especially one lay bin but if you have other house plants/ cages/ a friend with plants you can use the rest in those...
Nematodes as others said. The kind you want are steinernema feltiae. Also predatory mites stratiolaelaps scimitus. Neither will harm eggs.
The nematodes are phenomenal but a dual approach is going to be most effective as the predatory mites are more mobile and will eat a wider variety of small...
Like the title says I'm just curious what size pots you all have found a happy medium with?
I don't really want to have anything on the floor or any pots visible so just curious what people's thoughts are.
(My apologies if a thread like this exists I searched and didn't see anything relevant)
can't give you a real scientific answer on that but I can see some logic in it. Depending on the setup it may help but I'm not sure thered be high efficacy. Being rigid on cleanliness and maintenance is always #1. You seem diligent I'm sure you'll be good.
Also I'm going to have bare floor if...
So I painted the stand black and got the mistking laid out. Be a couple of adjustments but mainly tube management.
Tank should be here next Monday. Ordered a couple of 2ftx4ft black pvc foam boards to line the sides of the cage that will be against walls. I think this will really make all the...
To be abundantly cautious I would make sure to run atleast one of the mistking nozzles with these when you set it up to test so if the unimaginable happens the pressure has somewhere to go and doesn't cause leakage at a fitting along your lines
I looked at more photos of the system on Amazon and as I suspected this uses an almost identical sized pump as a mistking. You're good to go they're both high pressure systems. The only real difference in any of these type of mechanical applications is usually quality control and craftsmanship...
The opposite. If the mister has a pressure valve in it that requires a certain psi and the mistking does not pump that psi they just won't spray. Won't cause damage regardless
100% can use those. Can't guarantee they operate as smoothly as the mist king nozzles but they'll certainly work. I'll Google to see if I can find pressure info but no way those require higher pressure than most king
Literally just assembled my mistking ten minutes ago. In theory there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to use the other misters with the mistking. As long as those nozzles dont require a higher pressure than those of the mistking ( highly unlikely. Mistking is high pressure). Even if the...
I'll check out flchams again. I was looking on there for plants but must have just missed the section. And I will probably switch out the benjamina on your advice. I wanted umbrella but all the one I found in stock were over $60 a piece and I'm trying to keep plant budget to $150-200 atm. I'll...
literally the only longstanding profitable pet stores I know around me are all super specialized hole in the wallspots In weird locations with low rent. Pet stores make most of their money on supplies and they just don't do enough numbers to compete with prices at economies of scale most. Of...
Been having a hell of a time finding plants online or in person. All the lowes and home Depot around have nothing during winter and all the nurseries I'd use near me are either closed for winter or not carrying what I'm looking for.
Anyway I found this site called "PlantVine" and they have...
So I just built a 3 foot stand for my cage. Ceiling height in the room is just under 8 feet which will leave just enough room for lights on top of cage. So he will be as high as he can be!
What would you suggest for drainage?
My plan is basically to put a 1/2 in bulkhead in bottom of cage...
Drainage will go center and the two sides where the 2x4 sticks out beyond the tank platform will become a mesh pocket to keep small pruners and general plant/ enclosure tools/ most bottle etc. The other will allow me to run wires and tubing from underneath behind the tank as all my mechanical...
I just built this for $35 with precut 2ft and 3ft 2x4's and a 2ftx2ft piece of 1/4 in plywood. It is incredibly solid. And once I get my cage I will mount it with brackets in corner so it can't move if it get bumped.
I will clear coat it or stain it before use to help with water protection but...
