Glass is only recommended for babies and pygmies. Screen cages will maintain humidity for sure. Do not use substrate, it is not necessary. Your chameleon can ingest it, and it is a breeding ground for fungus. Any member on this board will agree.
What sort of chameleon are you getting? Since you...
I completely agree. Once you've got a particular species of chameleon breeding in captivity, there is really no reason to capture any more of that species in the wild, unless they are invasive in a particular area. Best to leave natural ecosystems be.
Where did you purchase her? Weird that whoever you bought her from didn't tell you what she was. Unless it is a WC, that is.
Not sure what that is. Looks sort of like a Meller's, but I know it can't be because it doesn't have neck flaps.
Yeah, I've always been an animal kid too. Over the course of my childhood I've had one orchid mantis, one Jackson's chameleon, one veiled chameleon, one African spur-legged tortoise, no idea how many fish, a few frogs at one point, five cats over a number of years, and one dog. When I was really...
Not intended as an interrogative question, just curious about why the various members of the community keep chameleons.
For me:
-Helps test my responsibility in keeping another organism happy and healthy.
-Entertaining to watch.
-I had a chameleon as a little kid, so there is some nostalgia...
Well, at the end of the day I checked in on her and she hadn't actually done any digging. I guess what I was hearing was her trying to get out. So, I took the whole laying bin and put it back in her enclosure, because I had to let the cats inside the house on account of it being so cold tonight...
I live in Sebastopol, California. I extend an offer to anyone in Sonoma County, or indeed anyone in the Bay Area, of whatever size my young veiled chameleon's clutch turns out to be. I am a new owner and I did not know that my female was pregnant when I purchased her, so I will not be able to...
So my chameleon is laying eggs that I am almost positive are fertile. I doubt the male she was impregnated by was super happy, but nevertheless, the eggs she is laying seem fairly good to me. I am a first time owner, and I would not be able to raise the babies or incubate the eggs properly for a...
How long should I leave her in there? I've been checking on her every half an hour, and she has seen me, but I haven't seen her start digging at all. Do you think she might start if I leave her alone for a few hours? I'd like to get her back to her cage soonish.
Yeah, I have noticed that she looks at me through the mirror. Still, a little less disruptive than peering over the side of the tub, especially since I don't have a webcam that I could use for this. The tub has about a foot of soil/sand mixture and has a ten inch diameter.
