Yup, I have a lid for it, just had to take it off for pictures. I didn't think this one would be good for pinheads because it has mesh that could be escaped from by little guys. I was going to use a large plastic bin for the pinheads. Thanks for the advice, Mr. Wilson, that sounds really...
Tomorrow I will be getting about a hundred crickets to start a colony with. Previously I have just been buying them in packages of 30. I will be keeping the adults in this container, and the eggs/pinheads in a different one without mesh. What does the community think? I am still a bit unsure on...
That sounds really cool. Wouldn't the substrate get moldy, though?
I've been told that, when breeding crickets in their own enclosure, tupperware dishes filled with moist soil are best. Have you found that covering the whole floor with substrate works better?
For the past while I have been planning to buy a bulk package of crickets for my chameleon, and then breed those. But then, it occurred to me that this was a very stupid idea. Crickets only live for about three weeks, if the sites I read informed me correctly, so most would die off before they...
I only cover two sides of the enclosure with towels. One of the other two sides is faced against the wall, and the other one lets air in. The two towels I have are on the side where faint light comes in, so it's virtually pitch black inside the enclosure.
I am wondering what the best place for a chameleon's enclosure is- I keep my enclosure in my room, and I am very often inside this room. This means I can keep an eye on her for most of the day, and I don't do a whole lot of moving around this room, but people do walk past her cage a few times...
The thing is, we have no place to raise babies, so even if they were fertile I don't think we would try and keep them alive. Although...
Would you imagine any pet store would accept them if they were fertile? I'd hate to kill the eggs, but I don't see any other options.
Hehe, yeah, from what I've read most new owners get a pretty raw deal in terms of expenditures. We bought orchid bark substrate, two 100W heat lamps, and a bunch of mealworms. It's amazing that pet stores can actually get away with lying to customers! It's a great thing I discovered this forum-...
Thanks for all the info, that's great. I use this info sheet for nutrition, it was recommended to me by someone here: http://www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htm. I dust all my crickets with plain calcium.
Forgot to update that, her poo is always brown with a white tip.
How much does the 5.0...
She isn't usually of this coloration, it was only because I had to put my hand in her enclosure to take pictures. So you're saying that some females produce eggs when they just see a male?
I have a few questions concerning gravidity. I have a female veiled chameleon who is about six months old (info sheet later down) and I suspect that she may be carrying eggs. I have suspected this for a week or so. She has a slight bulge in the back of her abdomen, and she may have been gravid...
I have had the same problem- even when I put rocks in, she just shot her tongue in between the rocks. If eating soil is still a problem, a better solution may be to cut out a circle of mesh and lay it over the plant pot. I have also heard that feeding your chameleon fresh vegetables will stop...
