Just wanted to say that buying hermie a mistking auto mister was the BEST investment (esp. since I"m gone for a good 10 plus hours these days...). The first two times it turned on he just sort of sat there (not under it) and stared at it with a "what the F***" look on his face. The third time no...
Quick mistking question that I was hoping Marty or someone else who sees it first might be able to help me with ...
Got my new system. yay! Hooked up the pump to the 5 gallon bucket. Have the tubing going the correct way of flow (triple checked this), but when I plug the pump in I can hear it...
To get Baycox into the US it has to brought in illegally from canada.
People do it, mainly in the horse industry, to treat a neurological disease called EPM which is due to a protozoan ... but it literally has to get smuggled in.
Well, we got hermie's bloodwork rechecked today and his phosphorus levels came down a little... but not very much. vet thinks that herm is probably starting to go into kidney failure since we didn't see a very good response to the antibiotics this time. :( Attitude wise he is better though (the...
SOmething else to consider, because this is what got hermie (or at least what a few reptile vets have told me). I simply grew him too fast. HE was getting his UVB, good supplementation, but I was feeding him far more than he "needed" and his bones were growing so (artificially) fast that they...
I've always transported hermie in a shoe box with a hand towel in the bottom of it. In the winter I wrap the outside of it in a towel and put those handwarmers under the towel in the box. (and load him into a prewarmed car as quickly as possible). He's always transported fine that way. I've...
When my cham had MBD (a pretty severe case...) we did the following:
oral calcium (calciumgluconate or however it's spelled) daily.
Vitamin D3 injections weekly (you can easily do this at home once shown how)
after a few weeks to boost his calcium levels we added in calcitonin...
So far so good. Hermie went to town on some silk worms today. Unfortunately they were really small so I'm trying to let them grow more before feeding them out ... the horn worms too ... I'm pretty sure he could have eaten a whole pod of babies today if I had let him. But at least he has a good...
For those of you with the wire/aluminum cages ... what are the bottoms made of? and how do you handle draining? With my current flexarium, I have it at a slight angle, and then a hole in the front of the lining that the water flows out of and into a tub (the one hermie went ... err... swimming...
Thanks guys! I will def. get a mistking if hermie keeps hanging in there. 10-day recheck. So as long as he is showing good progress I really want to make him a kingdom.
Do people recommend flexariums over the aluminum cages? currently I have a flexarium but am looking to upgrade in size and...
Well, I took hermie to his normal reptile vet today for a check up ... something about nearly drowning made me think he should probably be seen.
I realized before taking him that he can't shoot his tounge anymore. He tried and it wouldn't go. (It was shooting just fine prior to falling into...
Hi everyone --
I have decided that I want to update Hermie's habitat. I figure after nearly drowning he deserves some updates and if he can survive that he's probably goign to be around for a while to come.
Is there such a thing as "too big" for a male veiled enclosure? What is the max...
He's just chilling under his basking light.
I alrady emptied the bucket and have removed it from his cage area until I can get a screen for it tomorrow. I'm not sure that he needs another drink tonight. I can only imagine he was climbing out and slipped ... or didn't realize it was water and...
Well. Partly I am telling this story as an OMG:eek: I can't believe htis happened and partly as a warning to someone else.
Some of you may remember my veiled hermie .. quick recap but he is an "ex-MBD" cham who broke all four legs and only had bone density in his spine and skull, was casted...
Hey Guys!
Quick question for people who have hopefully done this (either on the shipment or receiving end). I live in MI where it is FREAKING cold (we are barely getting into the 20s most days ... but that's an improvement since for a period we werent getting above 0 without the windchill...
ALso ... when was the lsat time he pooped? If he is impacted a warm soak might be helpful.
From my experiences, when hermie closes his eyes like that, he's in pain. Finding out why will require a veterinarian (most likely) but your goal right now would be to support him until you can get him...
If there is no way to get him to a vet tonight...
I would try to get some water into him. Do you have a syringe? (no needle) you can put it in his mouth that way. Or a dripper.
I would keep him warm as well but given that he probably doesn't have it in him to move into the correct...
Just to throw this out there (and add more to the already burning fire).
I had to handle my veiled hermie for two extended periods of time... one when he had MBD and broke all four legs ... and when he had a really bad kidney infection. He seemed to cope with the MBD period of time ok ... I'm...
