I wouldn't house pygmies in an aquarium. They can live perfectly with the high humidity that would built up in the aquarium, but that doesn't mean they don't need ventilation. Pygmies need dense vegetation, so top ventilation isn't enough to have a circulation of fresh air all the way to the...
- I would add more climbing possibilities in the upper part of your viv. There is a whole area they can't use.
- 68F = ok, but they don't need a basking lamp. Just keep general temps in the viv around roomtemp (Absolute maximum around 77F).
- They don't need daylight bulbs, only a soft UVB (f.e...
Recently my new female wanted to mait with another female? I think my eyeballs almost popped out when I saw them. o_O I still don't know what happened there... :cautious: 2 females for sure.
From what I've read, forming of crystals around the nosetrils could indicate over supplementation of calcium. But I guess someone else should have to confirm this or you should do some research about this :)
I just bought a Thermo-Hygro meter (Exo-Terra - Combination Digital). Now I'm wondering where in the viv I should hang up the sensor to get the necessary info about humidity and temps. I'm guessing somewhere central in the viv where temps are the lowest (furthest away from the lights and walls...
Could I see the video again? It's not accessible through the link anymore. I was recently wondering if pygmies are bothered by each other when you put different species together (f.e. one male with females from different species that fit together considering conditions they need).
Isn't the problem with increased/forced airflow (with a fan) that your chams will have 'wind' which is also bad for them? I already replaced one door with a mesh frame to increase ventilation, but the problem is the humid earth I think, not a lack of airflow.
My problem is that I'm keeping my pygmies on bioactiv, so mold doesn't form easily because of the clean-up crew.. I have difficulties controlling humidity too. But not spraying is not an option (to let the earth dry out for a while), because then my chams can't drink.
I think with a 9 year old chameleon, we shouldn't be surprised they give 'a bit' of an unhealthy impression haha. Ever looked at a 100 year old human? They also don't have the body of some atlete who's ready to run a marathon anymore.. If he would be dehydrated or taken care of impropriate, he...
Dopey! You can follow him on the facebook group 'chameleon central USA'. He's 9 years old. This is a picture the owner posted on his 9th hatchday  He's blind, but still active. He's a rockstar in chameleon world :)
Picture 1: First time I saw them in mating position. The black one is the new female, the yellowish one is the female I already had.
Picture 2: I took the black one out, to check if she was really the female. She is, right????
Picture 3: Different angle than the first picture.
Picture 4...
I am utterly confused... Yesterday I introduced 2 new brevicaudatus to my female, so now they are with 1.2 in the viv. Today, I suddenly saw the two females in mating position. First I doubted my vision, but 10 minutes later, they were in the same position again, and then I clearly saw it were...
I was talking to a friend about chameleons and we came to the subject of putting 2 different species of pygmies in the same viv. I told him that's not recommended, but when he insisted for arguments I realised I actually did 't know any valid argument. Anyone who knows why specifically this is...
