This is a response to an old post but I would love to raise this again. It seems that there was a discussion on Veileds being outside when the ambient temp dips into the high 40s at night. My chams have always done better outside and I want to get them out there, but it just isn't consistently...
Dali, Yes though not as much as I would like. I am in Idaho and so far we have had one day this year with temps above 68 for a high. All of my chams live outside from about mid june to Sept. It is just too cold other times. Spike did get what seemed to be "noticeably old" toward the end but...
I see that no one is listing Jacksons. I had one that died just before age 4 and always wondered if it was premature or if they just didn't live as long as Veileds. My oldest is Raj, a male Veiled. He is approaching 5 and going strong.
I had a Jackson's once that had some kind of skin condition on his back. I took him to the vet and it turned out to be a thermal burn. I felt like such a heel! The vet told me that though he could tell when he wanted to change his body temp and be near something to warm himself up or cool...
Thanks, those pics are awesome and thats the exact kind of solution I am looking for. I have carpet all over and I just didn't see how I could do this. That looks great!
I would love to have a free range set up and am jealous of those of you that do. However, my wife is from and farm and already wants to know why I don't keep my Chams in a barn. I would need to keep "things" from falling on the floor (or shelf or whatever) to keep a happy house. A plastic...
Luckily my Chams have never picked up the habit, but its not for lack of trying. I just keep a good eye open and quickly investigate whenever I see a tiny flame in their cage.
Wow, looks awesome. My better half (not a big Cham fan) would have a heart attack because crickets/roaches, etc could get out (she is even less of an insect fan), but I am otherwise jealous. It sure it a good looking habitat.
They are all toxic (some worse than others). BUT...it is the solvent that is toxic for the most part if it isn't water soluble. You can paint, etc and then make absolutely sure it is baked on dry and you should be fine. I used that spray foam which has HIGHLY toxic isocyanates and then...
"efficient" bulbs are, by definition, bulbs that put more energy into light instead of heat. Some of these posts refer to new efficient bulbs for herps. Though it is that there will probably be some curly fluor bulbs that may come out as substitutes, they would have to raise the energy needs...
I rarely see my Jackson's drink, but he is 2 yrs old so he is getting it sometime. I wouldn't worry about not seeing it happen.
What is your temp? My veiled was brown often until I got another light for him. The increased temp brought him to green or at least that seemed to be the change...
I wish I could give a comprehensive list and I am not sure one exists. I can say that my veileds like grapes, cherry tomatoes, and rasberries. I cut them all in half and put them on a small stick. There needs to be a skin on the side facing the cham so that there is something for their tongue...
So, I can't quite tell....do you have this under the regular cage bottom and there is a hole or holes in the cage bottom that then drip into your pvc aquaduct??

I've read in books NOT to feed wild caught insects because of parasite risk and also read in others that it is good because of variety and nutrition. I will say that I cannot believe that the pet store purchased insects are at any less risk for parasites than are wild insects. I will also...
