You need to take EVERYTHING out of his cage that he can climb on. I had this exact same problem with hermie ... and yes if you want to save him he will have to live in a very abnormal atmosphere. Put him in an enclosure with NOTHING to climb on, just towels, and soft material in the bottm. I...
I tried them with Hermie bc our local pet store said that chams just love them ... hermie snatched one and promptley spit it back out half chewed up and wouldn't touch another one (they look pretty gross half chewed up too lol). So I guess he's not so much of a fan. Too bad since they are high...
That sounds EXACTLY like my cham hermie when he broke his legs... please get him to a vet ASAP. Maybe he just fell and broke one leg, but hermie's legs broke due to MBD. Hermie just started by breaking one leg and when he tried to climb again he fell bc he was unstable and kept breaking more...
I used twisty ties and also would run them from support post to support post squeezing them around each support post as I went. I have one of the screen cages that zips around the framework, and it was tight but secure.
Have you found the info that you were looking for or do you still have more questions? Feel free to ask more if you have them! :) I know how hard it can be to sift through internet info ... there is so much out that there that is contradicting or doesn't cover the bases properly.
When I ordered my silk worm pod I also ordered a petri dish of silk worm eggs ... how exactly am I supposed to take care of these eggs? I kinda thought that they would come with instructions... do I leave them in the petri dish until they hatch? Thanks!
I just wanted to let you guys know that Hermie got his LAST cast off today, and we have him on a low dose of calcium daily still. In a month or two we will get another xray of him to make sure that his bones aren't getting weaker or over-calcified.
Hermie's silk worm shipment came today ...
The pods are pretty cool ... I have silkworm pods. The only thing is that the last time I had silkworm pods mine slowed down on eating them and after a week or so they had eaten most of their food and it started to mold in there. YUCK. But they are really convenient.
I was just wondering if anyone else's chams ever go on cricket strikes? Hermie is known for them, and is currently on one. He goes through these spurts where he REFUSES to eat anything but whatever his current "favorite" is. I TRY to feed him a combination of crickets, silkworms, and then wax...
I do have a question about shedding ... my vet said "incomplete sheds" are a sign of poor health ... like parasites or something else that is wrong. Hermie began shedding a week ago and still has little bits of skin here and there. And I've upped the humidity in his cage to try and help him out...
This is just a guess ... but what came to mind is that if he's miserable from something else he very well might want to close both eyes, but his wild instincts keep him from doing so to watch out for predators? But you said that his URI is all gone? So that might not work as an explanation.
I think that was my problem with hermie.:( . I thought that I was doing what was best by feeding him as much as he would eat three times a day, always leaving at least a snack or two in the cage for him. He had calcium dusted crickets, UVB lighting, vitamin dusted crickets and gut loaded...
From my experiences with my veileds it depends highly on the chameleon. My first chameleon Corey Really seemed to enjoy being handled ... she would literally come running from across the cage when I put my hand in there and climb on. My current veiled Hermie, would try to bite -- repeatedly --...
Well, applesauce certainly is a lifesaver ... Hermie lived off of it for a few weeks. He also (by some miracle) would open his mouth and let us drop wax worms in too for a while.
Do you have a UVB light for her? If so what kind?
Sorry, I'm just trying to think about what this might be...
I would get her to the vet ... your vet can do an xray to check for anymore eggs and she might be needing some fluids to get her jump started again. Hermie always gets a kick start after getting fluids and his appetite increases and everything.
When you say her back legs are weak ... do you...
But what are the temperature gradients in his tank? I had a chameleon corey, who also drastically slowed down in her eating ... and it turned out that she had an impaction that was likely due to her temps being slightly too low, and she died, despite receiving intensive care from an emergency...
I think that this definately warrents a trip to the vet ... ASAP. Do you have a good exotics vet in your area? Is he still pooping? What is your set up like? (temps, housing, etc)
Hermie loves wax worms (if I'd let him, he'd eat nothing BUT them). I have herm "trained" to eat off of a spoon ... when he was younger I brought all of the crickets into his cage on a spoon and he would grab them off the spoon with his tounge ... so usually he'll do the same with wax worms...
Heika, where do you buy yours from? If hermie likes them I'd love to buy some for him ... I don't trust the ones he finds outside to be safe (pesticide wise).
