This could be a possible reason. Also, How is his grip? Does he have his toe nails. Without toe nails, it is very difficult to climb the mesh.

Sperm plugs are a little more yellowish than white. It has the consistance of cottage cheese. The white stuff could be urine as well. Generally speaking, if they are producing sperm plugs, they should be mature enough to breed.

Out of curiosiy, why did you switch to a 2.0? A 5.0 is recommended for the babies. Are you using a tube type or compact? What is the basking temp and temp towards the bottom of the cage?
