    tunnels collapse

No, you need to listen to the advice being offered to you. We told you to leave her alone and then you went and had a photoshoot while she was trying to dig. We're telling you now that you need to get a rubbermaid trash can and fill it with at least 18" of moist soil. If after 7 days of...

    tunnels collapse

I agree, 7 days of digging is not natural. Either she finds your laying site to be unsuitable, or you are disturbing her.

    Safe or Not????

Perlite is a volcanic glass that is soaked in water and heated to extreme tempuratues. This causes it to expand and turn white. Vermiculite is a naturally occuring non-toxic mineral that is also expanded by heat. They can both cause cancer, the same way asbestos does. Not by toxicity but by...

    Safe or Not????

No, he means perlite. Definately cover it with screen or large river stones, or pick out the perlite.

    Species? Who can Guess 2

Furcifer peteri or willsi? The rostrum has me me thrown. Is this a young chameleon? It looks like it, but he also looks a little too well endowed to be very young. If it's older, than scratch those two guesses. Is it at least in the furcifer genus? Maybe I'm looking at it too hard...

    Favorite indoor plant for chameleons

I'm the only weirdo that voted for schefflera. They grow like weeds and have thick yet nicely spaced branches. Ficus is too dense for large chameleons like veileds and panthers to navigate their way through easily imo. Also, the cupped leaves and umbrella shape hold water well, and the very...

USPS no longer a shipping option?

Not sure if it pertains or if I'm even correct but... In the past when I've ordered silkworms from mulberry farms, they've always come via USPS. But yesterday when I placed an order, I saw that they were shipping with UPS now. Perhaps it's related, perhaps not.

    New any suggestions?????

Realize that you've purchased a montane chameleon. They require low temperatures and high humidity. Remember that as it's the most important aspect of keeping montane species. You basking spot should never reach higher than 85 and your ambient should never be higher than 75. Jacksons prefer...

    Chameleon Color

No, darker colors do NOT mean relaxed. They mean stressed (unless while basking). The colors that RESguy is speaking of are display colors. There is a difference between stressed and display. When a cham is trying to color up for a mate or look aggressive towards a predator, they puff up...

    tunnels collapse

Noone can say for sure how long before a chameleon becomes egg bound. There are too many factors like age, size, amount of eggs, amount of calcification and many others. If she's in a hole or tunnel now, it would be best to cover her cage with a towel and leave her alone. If she catches you...

This is something I posted recently about the HabbaMist:

    tunnels collapse

I don't like sand at all for a laying substrate. It is MUCH too heavy, especially when wet, and the commercially available stuff is large grained and doesn't stick together well. I use potting soil without fertilizers, perlite or vermiculite... but if that's not available then simply mix soe...

    Weirdo's Enclosure

I have serious doubts as to wether your chameleon is only 5 months old. It is not a juvenile, but a sub-adult rather. A 20 gallon enclosure is much too small for him currently, and unless you want to be buying even another cage for him in the next few months, I'd upgrade right to a 175 gallon...

New - Chameleons! Online E-Zine Apparel and Other Items

I must say, that is an exceptionally good idea. I'd definately buy a calender of chams. I'd buy a dozen if one of my pictures was in there. ;)

New - Chameleons! Online E-Zine Apparel and Other Items

You know, Chris has a point about doing good for the chameleon community. If we took out a full page ad in Reptiles, and plastered thong shots all over it.. do you realize how many hits the E-zine would get? :p Everyone will want a chameleon! I'm telling you man, Amy would have taken a...

decided to put Splinter in Sonics

The best thing you can do for her now is to increase her calcium intake, and provide a suitable laying site in the near future. Usually it would be advisable to decrease the amount of food she recieves to reduce clutch size, but since your chameleon is so young.....
