New - Chameleons! Online E-Zine Apparel and Other Items

Just ordered some T-shirts for me and the ladyfriend. She wasn't going for the thong, I tried. A chameleons tongue isn't exactly her idea of underwear material  :D So Chris, does some of this money go to support the E-zine?

    Just Curious

There is definately a genetic issue going on with the Jax. Even if it isn't true albino, it is at least hypo. Here is another pic of my pigment impaired brev. Chris, one of these days I'm going to have to bring her up to Ithaca for you guys to check out and give me your opinion.

    pigment-impaired brev

I'm unsure if this female brev is leucistic or hypomelanistic, but she is always this shade and cannot change color.

    supplemtation

I personally use miner-all for vitamins and minerals, and I use repcal for calcium. Opinions on suplementing schedule will vary, but for a growing chameleon I would suggest miner-all once a week and the repcal every other day. Is this your first chameleon? 6 weeks may be a bit young and...

    Just Curious

Yes, there are albino chameleons. I don't have the photo's but I believe Chris Anderson does? They are rare, I don't know if any are alive in captivity or not. Personally, I'm ok with that. I don't ever want to see designer chameleons on the market. I personally have an r.brev that is of...

    Super Worms

Superworms are high in chitin content. Not as bad as mealworms, but it still may be much for a young chameleons digestive system. I would fed them sparingly to minimize the risk of impaction.

    Furcifer balteatus ?'s

I've always been fascinated with the balteatus species as well. I have a book on chameleon keeping that was pre-1995 and it talks alot about how parsonii and balteatus are similar in care, but differing in taxonomy. From what I've read, they require a cold period every year and enter a...

    How small is too small...?

Yes, your chameleon should have been moved into a much larger fresh air habitat by now. I know it's a bit late, but if you cannot afford a simple cage upgrade, you should not have purchased a chameleon. Housing is a minor cost compared to uv lighting and vet bills, not to mention long term...

just bought a velied chameleon, I think she is dieing...

If you are using the ESU slimline fixture, it is essential that you remove the clear plastic cover thats over the flourescent tube. It will block 100% of the UV unless you remove it. Switching the bulb out for a ZooMed 5.0 wouldn't hurt either. Just to be clear however, the problem you are...

    Just Hatched Baby Montiums Yesterday!

As far as baby chameleons go, the montiums seem to be very unremarkable. If you didn't tell us that was a montium, no-one would have ever guessed. However, in a few months I expect that guy will be a real looker... actually, do you know the sex? How do you sex montium babies?

    I'm a plant killer...

For ficus, I highly recommend Fox Farms Fertilizer's Gro Big formula. It isn't 100% organic because it contains trace minerals from a synthetic source, but close to like 98% organic and I've had excellent results. http://foxfarmfertilizer.com/

    I'm a plant killer...

Most of the issues with plants dying inside of chameleon enlcosures come down to two main factors, light and moisture. While it seems like a UVB light would be best for growing, it really isn't. At least not from a flouro or two. The amount of penetration isn't deep enough for a large plant...

    Calcium in Water?

I've always wondered why chameleon owners put so much stress into making sure their supplements are phos free. Last time I checked phosphous was responsible for maintaining a healthy metablolism, healthy muscles and strong bones as well as aiding in calcium absorptoin and body chemistry. Phos...

    how much food

While I'm of the firm belief that chameleons CAN be overfed, I don't think that's something you'll have to worry about quite yet. If you could post a picture of your cham, we could hep you determine it's age, but it sounds as if it's still a juvenile. At this point in your chams life, while...

    setup for montane species

Haha! Actually, it was a tradeoff. I'm also into horticulture and that takes up some room, so I had to surrender up my bigger closet to her in exchange. She also makes me get up in the middle of the night and remove noisy crickets from the cages. Just what I want to do at 3am! :D
