How Do I Make My Ficus Cham-Safe?

Shower time If it's a single stem plant you can give it a nice shower! I wrapped the pot in a sturdy garbage bag gathering the top and twisting until it was tight against the bark. Then I taped it down firmly to the top of the pot (not to the stem itself). I put the plant in the shower and ran...

    Large cage, quick uvb questions

I have a 24x24x48" screen cage for my panther. I want to put up a strip light for UVB instead of a dome. -- Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0? -- Is 18" sufficient length? -- Can I also put a full spectrum (florescent) up for the plants? (I have a dome light for heat.) TIA, Kim

I'm in the process of purchasing live plants for Master Elodin's (panther) viv. (fka Deadleg) (Giving live plants another go.) I've searched the forums but not found any posts with specific information about the use of bromeliads. Has anyone used an unpotted bromeliad in a screen cage? How...

    Elodin (aka Deadleg)

I looove this little man! The patio pic was a month ago. The mad, mad, mad shot was a few days ago. No idea what triggered it. The cats were asleep in the other room, I was at my computer working for about an hour. I glanced up and he was puffed up. Couldn't resist a pic. lol He is so...

    Star Jasmine leaves

Elodin (panther) "caught" a dried Star Jasmine leave. (Trachelospermum jasminoides) I was able to remove it ( v e r y gently), He only had the tiniest edge of it. I know the flowers are safe but what about the leaves? If it's not good for him what signs would I look for to indicate he was in...

    Hygrometer placement

I got a small (baby) cage so it's getting sprayed heavily. Short of taking it out each time there is no way to avoid it getting wet. I guess that's what I'll have to do.

    Hygrometer placement

Does it need to be out of direct misting? If it gets sprayed how long before the reading is accurate again?

    Schedule mist in morning?

How soon after lights on can I mist? Should Elodin be basking first or is it ok to mist while he's still on his sleeping branch or heading over to bask? (I tried searching for an answer first because I'm sure it's been asked before.)

Humidity/Hydration/Drainage - live plants, sm. cage dilemma

Thanks doc! Droplet size would never have crossed my mind. Hubby is working on plans for an adult enclosure. He went to HD today to look at drain ideas after looking at the sticky thread. The adult viv will have an auto misting system. Your guy most definitely does like to drink from the...

Humidity/Hydration/Drainage - live plants, sm. cage dilemma

Thanks decadancin and vgaines for the incite on silk plants. (I really need to learn to multi quote!) The Pothos pot has large holes and when I repotted I put a coffee filter and gravel in the bottom to prevent soil washout. It sits atop another of the same size turned upside down. I was...

Humidity/Hydration/Drainage - live plants, sm. cage dilemma

Although I read, and read, and read some more, thread after thread and gleaned information important and obscure before I got my chameleon, I was not prepared for the difficulties of managing water in a small screened chameleon cage. It had the set-up one week prior to getting my chameleon and I...
