That helps loads, thanx :)
I'll get rid of it and get some reptile carpet - i don't mind the extra work either.
If i buy 2 or 3 lots i can have some fresh stuff in while the other is drying.
You'd think the people in these shops would have the basic knowledge to guide us novices in the...
After realising that the guy who sold Shiver to me told me a load of bull with regards to keeping chameleons i'm now unsure about using a substrate at the bottom of the cage.
I'm using some white stuff he said was ideal - i think it's coconut bark??
I was a bit unsure as surely she could...
OUCH!!!!! That looks painful!
Very neat scar though, they've done a very good job.
I shattered my left wrist last year and had to have a T-piece of surgical steel put in, had about 30 stitches - it's a hell of a scar but it doesn't bother me any more.
Also broke my right thumb, right...
I have fake plants in at the moment but will be investing in some real ones now i know which ones are safe :)
As regards for water, i personally wouldn't want to use a fountain - they look and sound good but they're high maintanance for sanitising.
But i do use RO water, i use this for...
It certainly seems like a load of bull now Will, i'm soooooo glad i found this forum ( i bet Shiver is too lol ).
Jordan, great info - thanx :)
I've already ditched the heat mat and i'm going to buy a whole load of new stuff today ( it's now 5.30am here in England :( ).
Oh, Shiver is a...
Lol - i know what you mean! I found some lamp stands in a local pet store and they were ridiculously expensive.
Mine is sat on top of the mesh at the mo but she can't quite reach.
I am going to do a complete re-design though - heat pad has gone already and i'm going to buy another lamp...
I was only doing what the guy in the pet store told me to do, i guess he was just trying to get me to buy more stuff than i needed lol.
I didn't realise they could cope with such extreme temp changes, i think i'll completely re-design my set-up. I only have a UV lamp, should i ditch the heat...
I'm switching lamp off manually at the moment but that sounds like a really logical idea - think i'll invest in a timer :)
I got Shiver from a very reputable local store, the guy who served me gave me loads of info but i'd rather learn off the "real experts" - ie, you guys.
This is why i...
That's great info, thanx guys - i'll turn her mat off at night.
She doesn't spend much time on the ground but she does sit over the mat sometimes.
The mat isn't in the cage at all, the cage sits on top of it ( i was told to do this by the pet store i bought her from ) i have a glass cage...
I'm in coooollllddd England lol, it's only under a quarter of the cage so she can warm herself up on it if she needs to. It'll be turned off when it gets a bit warmer over here.
It took Shiver about a week to settle with her sleeping - her first night she slept on the floor ( heat mat underneath cage ) with her front legs on the glass.
I've since put in lots more plants ( plastic for now :( ) and a few vines, she now sleeps in the very top plant - same spot every...
I had the problem of Shiver scratching at the glass when i first got her, i put some backing ( the stuff used on aquariums ) on 3 sides of the cage and this stopped her doing it - i think she was trying to "attack" her reflection.
:)
I've only had my Veiled for about 3 or 4 weeks so she's still hissing at me if i approach her too fast.
I started by tempting her with wax worms on my fingers so she associates ( spelling? ) my hand with yummy food, she will now walk on my hand if i approach her slowly.
She still hisses at...
Never had cats but i've got a few friends with them, kittens ended up hiding in their christmas tree lol.
I used to have a 900ltr ( 180 gallon? ) reef tank, a 400ltr ( 80 gallon? ) brackish tank with Malawi and Tanganykan Cichlids and another 400ltr with 15 Discus.
Only got the piranha now...
Sounds like you guys have got some fantastic reptiles.
Unfortunately due to my parents not liking them i'm only just getting into the reptile scene.
Shiver is the latest addition to my ever-growing mad-house lol.
I've currently got 2 dogs, a wolf hybrid and a GSD mix - soon to be...
