Are they tube lights?
Most people here use a Repti Sun 5.0 and a regular incandescent light for basking. What type of chameleon do you have? 100 degrees sounds pretty hot. Chameleons will sometimes not realize and allow themselves to get burnt/injured from high heat.
I have to be honest and say I'm not sure why you bothered posting if you were not intending to follow any advice at all. I mean, I'm not trying to be confrontational or rude, but everyone here is giving you the *correct* advice and yes, I'm sure many chameleons can tolerate being together if...
Yeah, puffing up means she's pissed and being defensive. My cham puffs up and gets black whenever I get too close to her cage especially when I'm messing with it. I try to be quick when I need to get some poop out or put feeders in. Do your best to not harass her but sometimes it's going to...
My non-expert opinion would be that the vast VAST majority of baby chameleons in the while die, I would assume trouble finding food/becoming someone elses food is a big part of that.
There is always cup feeding. If you do a search for that you will find a lot of info. :)
Also, can you describe his cage a little more? Size, material (glass or screen), whether you have a substrate or not, etc.
Haha, yes there are holes drilled in the floor of the cage. The cage wont roll because the pipes are fixed in place. The pots that the plants are in weigh A LOT. Like, a lot a lot. I was afraid anything else wouldn't hold them up. These are pretty sturdy.
Thanks :)
Where the heck did that paragraph of a sentence about boyfriends, alcohol and zombie video games come from? I mean, if you're going to be a sledgehammer (which you should stop doing in the first place) at least stay on topic and don't start rambling on about things the OP never mentioned...
I'm hand misting. Only one chameleon, but I find it a horrid experience and I am getting a mistking. Or rather, a family member with some $$$ is getting me one because he saw me standing there misting a cage that's 7 feet in the air and felt bad haha. When she was lower it wasn't awful now that...
I'd say ambilobes and nosy be's seem like the most "popular" but they're also the most common so it's just easier to get. So it's kindof an either or, go with the more popular and assume sales will come since people want them, or go with the rarer locales like nosy mitsio and be one of the few...
First, let me say I got my idea for the drainage system (particularly, sitting it on pvc pipes like I did) from this forum but cannot find the original thread. If anyone knows which thread it was let me know and I'll provide the link :)
Anyway, Priscilla has been at my home for a week and...
I went!! But that was my first show. That is where I got Priscilla, a female Ambilobe. 7 mo. give or take. My friend got a veiled who is about 3 mo. and has shown some really cool coloring when we got him home and put him into his new enclosure (being handled enraged him, haha). The only...
Thanks everyone! And yeah Laurie I was also thinking that maybe I should give her a few days so it's not like. The worst week of her entire life all happening at once :). Plus it allows me not to be stressed out trying to put together a cabinet with my DIY drainage idea while trying to write a...
warpdrive: I will when I get the full thing set up. :) Thanks
Heres the how to ask for help form. Let me know if anything seems very off here.
Chameleon Info:
* Your Chameleon - Ambilobe, female, "around 7 months" old, in my care for less than a day
* Handling - This week I'll need to...
After surfing the forums for several weeks researching chameleons, I am finally the proud owner of a new little friend!
Today I went to the Hamburg/Northwest Berks Reptile Show and originally had planned to purchase an Ambilobe male if he was available, however, I found no available panther...
Thanks Ferret :) While you were posting that response I was actually getting some rocks to cover the soil, haha.
Fluxlizard - Good to hear that the plants can withstand that. If this one lives (it was in sub-par condition when I got it and hasn't seemed to be thriving. Maybe the repotting will...
Thanks brandychams. I repotted the mass cane and that was really simple, the old soil just literally fell off the roots completely the second it came out of the soil so the little bugs don't matter.
And, yes I washed them last week by dunking them in soapy water and rinsing them upside down...
I'm about to purchase my first cham and I'm setting up his enclosure.
I just repotted one of my plants (umbrella tree) in a mix of organic soil and sand and I'm in the process of repotting the other two (mass cane* and pothos). The umbrella tree was very root bound and in the type of soil...
