I am narrowing my focus to two, at most three species. In an effort to devote space and resources to those species sadly a few of my chams must go. All have been well cared for and come with a five day arrive alive, stay alive guarantee. I reserve the right to refuse sale to anyone for any...
Campy,
You are correct your cham does need D3. Supplements designed for chameleons being housed in outdoor enclosures will not generally have D3 because of the animal’s exposure to natural light. Conversely supplements designed for animals housed indoors will have trace D3 to ensure that the...
I am sure that every veiled breeder in the US would love to charge panther prices for their offspring! At least then they could stand some chance of covering the cost of the food it took to raise the babies!
The reason the prices are so low is b/c any novice with a heat lamp, some crickets...
How to build a simple 2'x2'x4' cage for your chameleon
Ok here we go!
Start by buying 2"x2" lumber (pine. poplar, aspen whatever is available). Make sure it is nice and straight unless you want to spend the day at the long bed jointer getting it straight! Pick up a 4x8 sheet of 3/8" shower...
Will,
you are quite observant, but how can you see the tulips? LOL The aluminum cages are just basic ESU cages that I purchased and despise. The reservoir is controlled by a Kent float valve tied into the hot water line on the water heater. The bottom cages all have some form of catch basin...
Any age any kind, pics of babies please!
This is a young Ch. (T.) wiedersheimi. Mike at FlChams hatched these guys. I recently recieved three of them. If you want something different these guys are not often offered CH, or CB. Anyway lets see yours!
Cozzy,
The better question is how are they beneficial? They in no way improve on the chameleons captive habitat. Chameleons have a tendency to defecate in moving water, likely an instinct if they poop in a stream poop goes away. Crickets are ridiculously poor swimmers, 20 or 30 of them can...
This is a great question. IMHO too much about the care of "difficult" species is shrouded in some obscure mystery. This post is my opinion based on my experience and should be regarded as only that. I am a hobbyist and have much to learn, a beginner like you who selfishly loves chameleons...
I got bored this weekend and rearranged one of the cham walls, now to do the others. I think I will like it, but I doubt I will quit tinkering! My wife thinks I have lost my mind sometimes.
Yes, to keep this from happening take it out, put it in the box it came in and return it to PetsMart. It is not necessary, and in fact dangerous to your chameleon. Run a search for more info.
EarthLion,
Why have you come here trying to start a fight. Your opinion is wrong on this subject, or you are very misinformed.
No one here debates the cold blooded nature of the animals we keep. Nor does anyone here disagree that in order to function optimally the animal must be given...
No, no one here is using heat tape anywhere but in our incubators. It would be folly to use heat tape for a chameleon to stand on. They are not "programed" to regulate their core temps through their feet. As a result we have all skipped this most ignorant idea, and instead created temperature...
Traditional single, double, and triple wall poly panels do not allow the transfer of UV light into the enclosure, as Will pointed to they are designed to reflect it, to stop their own decay. There are speciality products, both panels and 6-mm poly sheet that do allow for the transmission on UVB...
