I don't take my cham out when I clean the enclosure. He just sits there and watches :)

Pet Insurance - not just for Dogs and Cats.

Owning any animal requires being fully responsible for their care and expense within reason. Having said that, if my dog gets cancer I'm going to do what it takes to get her better. I would not, however, put my chameleon on the same level as my dog.

What was your biggest surprise when you got your chameleon?

I'm also surprised that he's healthy. Seems like majority of posts are about some health issue, so I just assumed everyone's cham got sick on a regular basis.

What was your biggest surprise when you got your chameleon?

For me it was how friendly this wild animal is. He's always comes down to his special spot and reaches out when he wants to climb up my arm, usually several times a day. While he's sometimes hesitant and slow, he's not afraid.

1 year old panther Chameleon eating habits

Regarding drinking water, I've had my chameleon for some time & I've never once seen him drink or lick water. He does occasionally lick a dry branch, but that's just him marking his territory.

How do I set up live plants in the upper half of the enclosure for my Cham

It's a tough challenge. Other than the obvious dragon ledges, consider hanging plants from the top or vines that grow up the back

Dying? What should I look for?

4.5 years old is a decent run for one of these sensitive animals. Unfortunately, 100% of chameleons die eventually, just like the rest of us :(

Chameleons are not a cheap hobby. The price you initially pay is only a fraction of the total expense.
