So yesterday before having company over I noticed that Dino (veiled) had knocked his hygrometer off so I went in to reattach it.
Normally when I am incoming I have food so he was watching me very carefully as always. However, this time I was just trying to be in and out quick.
BUT I guess...
I just found a neonate lizard in my indoor gym (no action to outside doors).
I swear it must be a gecko; it is pink, with leopard spotting, and a striped tail. Eyes are large and black and must be nocturnal.
I am in Socal, we only have western fence lizards around here and the tiny babies...
For those with beardies, if you would like to contribute to a research project being done by a group of reptile vets researching nutritional, the information is below:
Subject: [ExoticDVM] Bearded dragon nutritional survey
Dear Colleagues,
We have an industry-funded nutrition project to...
I was hired to write an article on the need for UV lighting in birds by Harrison's Bird Foods. A good deal of the information is directly applicable to reptiles and chameleons so I wanted to share it here. Of course chams don't have preen glands but they process UVB similarly. In fact, the...
Works like a charm in cages giving me readings from 2-4 or more depending how close to the bulb.
But curiously when I point it to the sky (clear and cloudless here today) it is giving me a 0.1 or 0.2 reading.
How is this possible?
Also I notice that when button is pushed, the left side...
My Mist King in large Meller's enclosure has been losing pressure and barely working for some time. Most of the nozzles were replaced, only to work for a bit and quickly peter out. I have always used only reverse osmosis water as my tap water is nearly 300ppm..
I did all of the following...
Due to weather fluctuations, I am inundated with silkworms. To the tune of several hundred for 5 lizards...Anyone in Orange County Ca need some?
I would consider shipping also
Even though this is an upgrade for a crested gecko I wanted to pass along some comments about this new enclosure I tried. It was very reasonable $199 from dubias.com, and is 24 x 18 deep x 36 tall. Not big enough for a large cham but I wonder about a small female jacksons or boehmei, or for baby...
Looking thorough a book I got at the conference came across this radiograph of a female with eggs.
It is horrifying-there are eggs all the way up to her neck! Can you imagine the pressure on all her organs.
Could be useful as an educational photo to demonstrate what can happen if the girls...
Today is a day just to celebrate lizards!
Might be a good day for each of us to give a nice treat bug even if it is not the normal day :)
I've done a round of waxworms, everybody let us know what your honoree gets!
Bought this plant as a 4" pot (for a cham..) over 25 years ago. It has been in multiple enclosures, states and houses along the way, the last 10 years in a shaded patio.
2 years ago I put it outside in full sun. And it is blooming! I have never seen this and thought the bloom was a weed and...
To feed I put my bugs in small cups, sprinkle with the supplement du jour and feed from the cups. Inevitably the supplement builds up in there so I re-use it by tossing the bugs around. I try to put the cup with Earthpro A in a different place than the one with LoD. But when I go to use it again...
So this afternoon Multivitamins brought me little Dude who patiently waited for me to get all his cage parameters set up and then crawled right out on me and took a fat silkworm from my hand.
Not only is he gorgeous, he is a big boy at 200 grams.
Just took a quick snap so as not to disturb...
Last month Angela Lennox DVM from Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis was visiting and I wanted her to have a look at my Meller's mouth, he has always had some irregularities in the lip line.
Previously I had found a small pocket of infection, cleaned and treated it, and it has...
Just to mention that I will be going to Exoticscon Vet Conference in Boston in August, and there are TOO many good lectures to choose from! I will definitely post whatever nuggets I get from the following topics:
Gimme Shelter (and UVB and Tube Feeding): Caring for Hospitalized Reptiles...
At long last I have the portrait of Pellinore from Rebecca Wang. (using proceeds from a photo contest win).
Or actually it is currently being shipped.
I am stunned by the realism and the way she captured Pelli's attitude.
I threw her a bit of a loop by asking to include some of his plants...
So I had empty habitat syndrome..and I have always loved crested geckoes. The idea was to get one but there was a "special" and I could not decide between morphs..so I got 2. One is much younger and not able to be 100% sexed, the other is a male.
Learning everything as fast as I can. Sure wish...
Just a little reminder to get your chams outside as much as possible before it gets too cold! They'll definitely thank you.
My veiled is scratching away at his cage front because he can't wait for his turn. Meller's always gets first dibs because he needs the cooler temps.
Sorry not a cham but it was cute to be greeted with this this AM.
Little guy is perhaps in search of a bidet. I mean they did have silks a couple days in a row....
Just got my magazine today and guess what Patek has created for this year! There is a veiled and a panther, they are done in 14K gold and hand-enameled. Look at the spines on that veiled! I think they are making 6 of each-have not seen the price yet but it will be in the tens of thousands...
