You seem adamant that it's nothing to do with husbandry but if he's constantly on the cage floor then it's not normal.

This is where it was when we first started. Although I still think it looked pretty, there was a distinct lack of foliage and basking perches. It also needed a real plant and a removal of the substrate.
This is how we have it now, about a week later. We removed the substrate, put in some...
If the managers are not cooperating with you to make sure their "product" is healthy and well taken care of, then you'd be surprised how much corporate will work with you to make sure an investigation takes place. Petco gets a really bad rap because of poorly managed ones in high population...
I got my Jacksons from the Petco near here, but I live in Oregon so our Petcos are very well managed. If they weren't, they would have hippies protesting outside, lol. Regardless, my petco gave me 35% off for giving us the wrong age of Albert and they were super nice. I also have returned...
Sorry, been really busy. We completely redid his habitat, incorporating a beautiful live Schefflera and some natural birch branches for basking at the top. and wrapped the artificial vine that he loves around the plant. I'm quite happy with the outcome and this will hopefully be the last time we...
I ended up getting a beautiful Schefflera from Home Depot for $10. Perfect size for his cage, I'll have pics tomorrow of his renovated habitat. Hopefully the last renovation for a while! I feel bad making changes so much but I just want to get everything perfect.
I'm by no means an expert, but it looks like a possible thermal burn. What are you using to measure temperatures? It could very well be fungal as well. Monitoring his humidity should be a priority though, so get a new gauge!
I'm fully aware of captivity stress and the importance in keeping stress as low as possible, especially in chameleons. It kind of seems a little dramatic to bring up capture myopathy though. Regardless, I had already removed it when I made this post. I just wanted to see if he would realize that...
Minor update! I did remove the substrate and have substituted it with a towel that I will be keeping clean daily. I also added some bird branches and his habitat is looking great, although I still need the live plants. I'm kind of broke right now but I feel bad not having a live plant in there...
While I agree, I think he may have thought it was night due to being removed from light and my girlfriend was being very cautious to not move while he was out. We have seen his stress coloration in multiple instances, and he always shows a dark green patterning throughout his body. He was light...

Your Chameleon - Jacksons, male, ~8 months old, in my care for about a week.
Handling - Have only handled him maybe twice. Once when I got him home, and the second time when I was doing some cage renovation my girlfriend held him for about an hour. He was surprisingly content...
Their sizes can vary and at five months, he still has plenty of growing to do. If he's eating more and has a good habitat with sufficient heat and humidity then he will grow more. Just be sure he's getting sufficient calcium, UVB intake, and preferably always has food available to him.
Cute...
