Hedgehogs make great pets if you can get a friendly one who won't spike you every time you wanna touch him, beardies are usually friendly and like to be handled but I personally would go for the hedgehog.
I hope they get better soon! I love goats, when I was like 3 my dad let me ride one, it was hilarious! They are actually pretty smart creatures, I'd love a little baby goat if I had the room!
