    New chameleon

He doesn't seem to drink from the leaves and I was told on this thread not to mist too much because of the danger of a URI and bacteria building up, and not to mist him directly at all because they don't like that and it's bad for their skin. He certainly doesn't seem to care for being misted...

    New chameleon

Re: water, I watched a video on a FB group about providing water via a pipette or baster and I tried it today and he drank from it very successfully. I also have on order a chameleon fountain which is what a breeder whose facility I visited was using. She has had good success with these. I may...

    New chameleon

Oh, meant to add-- I actually SAW him eat today. When I turned the lights on at 7 AM he immediately began walking down to the food dish, so after I misted the cage a bit, I put 10 crickets into his crock. Watched him eat a couple before I had to go to work. I'm pretty happy that he is eating. I...

    New chameleon

I can remove the substrate. It's no problem. I feed my insects a variety of vegetable and fruits scraps (typically leftover from our own cooking, or from preparing food for our herbivorous animals). The worms also get dried egg shells which they chew on. If I have leftover CGD from feeding my...

    New chameleon

Right now I am using a ceramic crock that formerly belonged in a parrot cage. It's tall(ish) and deeper than most crocks, so the crickets stay inside. I threw a few mealworms in there too. I am not sure if he ate those, as my wife only peered through the cage door.

    New chameleon

The bulb is an 18", standard bulb. It's not HO. It's a 5.0 ExoTerra bulb. The 10.0 just came in the mail today. I'll set it aside for now and revisit the issue when I move him into the larger cage. I just do not want him to have a hard time finding his food, but I suppose if he continues to eat...

    New chameleon

Had my wife check and apparently he cleaned out the bowl of crickets. Do you all think he'd eat some dubia roaches if I put them in there?

    New chameleon

I think one of the most frustrating things about keeping chameleons (so far) is conflicting info. I just ordered a 10.0 bulb because folks of a chameleon FB group said he will not do well without one. Also have heard very conflicting info about substrate- some people say none, some people say...

    New chameleon

Here are two photos of the little guy and his cage. In speaking to someone on a Facebook chameleon group, I am going to exchange the 5.0 bulb for a 10.0 bulb. I am also going to arrange a few additional horizontal branches today so he can more easily be at different heat levels. He basked under...

    New chameleon

I’ll try to post photos tomorrow. I need to upload them to my iHerp account first.

    New chameleon

Picked up my new veiled chameleon tonight. I checked him out and he seems to have spurs on his back feet, so I am assuming he is a male. I have him in an 18" cube ExoTerra which is making him seem super tiny. I'm going to order a nice tall screen cage which can hold some taller live plants like...

A good species for a newb?

I will PM you and we can further discuss. Thanks!

A good species for a newb?

I am okay with not handling. I have a male CB tokay gecko who hates my guts. He's eye candy. So... if I have a CB source nearby they would be a good starter cham? Do they have to be in a glass cage or is wire okay? Were the ones you saw at shows CB? I have seen veiled at shows, but almost...

A good species for a newb?

This was the veiled breeder I found in Cali. http://tikitikireptiles.com/products.php?id=50 I have always admired Screameleons panthers, saw them at a Daytona show many years ago. Seems like a ton of people are now breeding panthers with great color.

A good species for a newb?

I use live in my gecko terrariums so planned to use live for the cham. Was considering a Zilla Fresh Air cage. They are reasonable priced and seem to get good reviews for durability. Also, I am not planning on purchasing the animal for a good 6-8 months so plenty of time to research caging...

A good species for a newb?

I am interested in keeping a chameleon. I have many years of experience with reptiles, but not with chams. I'm considering a veiled. Would you consider veiled to be a good first time cham? I like the colors of the panthers but they seem to get very large. I also like the smaller carpet...
