I open it slowly every time. He would venture out around the room the first year, but now he seems to just stay in his corner about 99% of the time. I spend a lot of time with him. A LOT! He stays in that area. I have had him for almost 2 years now, my first reptile pet. The worst lesson I had...
Here are some pictures of him outside today. Not the best weather right now in Jacksonville, Florida - but he enjoys climbing on the trees and exploring the yard.
Humidity is high in Florida, he spends a lot of time outside in the backyard - and near the open window too. He gets a lot of sunshine, and has been doing good, besides that burn on his back, etc.
Using bamboo and climbing rope with some zip ties... you can make a variety of chameleon climbing setups. Here is a version of a lean-to for my Veiled Chameleon.
He takes a while to find sometimes, but he is usually in his main spots. I used to have the whole corner of the room for him, but I grounded him to just 2 feet from the ground, he isn't climbing very well these days since a spinal injury - but he is getting better
My veiled chameleon rubbed raw his spines on his back by pushing through a narrow path near the ceiling, popcorn ceiling painted white. His spines turned black, and a narrow area of dead skin showed up, then the area began to heal, and now it looks like his injured spines are beginning to fall...
I have a male chameleon, veiled, about a year old. I am thinking about getting an additional chameleon. What are your thoughts/opinions, success/failures with having 2 or more chameleons, etc.? I am thinking of getting a female veiled so he can have a mate. thoughts/suggestions?
I added a few more pictures of his free range. He even added a few pictures of his hanging out at the pool area. Sometimes he just sits with me on the pool float and we just chill-lax
I will add a little hammock for him, see if he likes it. He really likes the climbing ropes. I have noticed that he always climbs out to the furthest point, distance wise, away from his usual spot, to go poop, etc. Why do they do that? Do you think it knows?
