Hi Schegini14
If you're planning to get a meru and need some help with information and setup, I've been keeping a male meru for a bit less than a year now in Central Texas with pretty good success I like to think. Just a thought about these guys... since they are montane species, if you live in...
I would check specialty aquarium shops. Some saltwater fish tanks require water of a higher temperature than just ambient I believe... I found this one online, not sure if it's any good because I personally don't heat my water as my chameleon adjusted after a week or so to the room temperature...
Just a thought, but the fish tank heater in the bucket would probably promote the growth of bacteria and algae that you wouldn't want your chameleon exposed to. You might consider an inline water heater placed between two sections of tubing closer to the exit nozzle for the mister to attempt to...
That is definitely not a mount meru jackson's, but I couldn't say specifically whether it was a jacksonii or a xanth. My best guess would be that it's a xanth though.
I'm currently keeping my meru in an 18x18x30 with lots of vegetation. The humidity requirement to keep them happy is ridiculous though. I have my enclosure setup inside of a varnished wooden box with a thick vinyl/plastic sheet hanging over one side to allow be able to see in, and i have...
If nobody here has any ideas about Chameleons available in East Texas, you should try http://www.chamaeleonidae.com/forum/
There are several of us from Texas on this forum (CCIC), myself included (Austin).
As far as East Texas goes, I'm not sure. But it would definitely be an option to have a...
You mean as in possibly providng a dish of water that would contain fish small enough to be eaten by a chameleon?
I have personally never heard of chameleons eating fish, but that by no means indicates that it never happens. I would think that the only way a chameleon could take a fish would...
I'm sort of toying with the idea of attempting to raise/breed silkworms to feed my meru but don't really have any info about what would be involved or the type of setup I would need. Know any good websites or info from you friend that could be helpful for me?:)
I don't have any photos of it right now, but I will try to take some tomorrow when he's awake. I didn't build the cage myself. It's was custom made however.
My vet didn't do anything as far as squeezing out any pus from the toes but did put him on Fortaz. I don't know when crickets might have...
I will definitely look into the foliage, etc. in the enclosure and I've been adjusting/tweaking my temps/lights/humidity to try and see if anything makes him more comfortable.
My vet ran a fecal on one that I brought in with him and found a worm that none of his parasitologists or he had ever...
Thanks for the suggestion!
I am actually planning to replace some of his plants this weekend with a larger, sturdier hibiscus as well as adding some more vines for him to climb on. As of this morning (last time I was home) his claws looked to be ok with just the toes swollen, but I'll be sure...
Hey Will,
You wouldn't believe it, but I actually found my 2.5 ft schefflera at a hardware/lumber store that had a garden section (Lowes/Home Depot generally have some decent specimens of reasonable height for us). I'm not sure what sorts of stores they have up in Ontario (we have lots of...
He does climb the sides of the cage, and his claws are also intact. The screening I've used isn't like a Reptarium. It's a metal screen with I think it's either 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch openings. Yesterday morning before I headed off to my morning classes, I noticed that he was climbing up and down...
I just posted this on the CCIC forums, but I wanted to get some insight and info from this group as well. Thanks!
Well, so yesterday while I was feeding my meru (btw I think he was just bored with the crickets becaues he willingly hunted down 2 after having not been exposed to them for a couple...
Thanks for the info! I'll hopefully be able to make it to some of these shows.
If anyone was wondering, I found out about a show in Austin on August 26/27 of this year (well it's actually in Round Rock, but that's practically Austin).
It does act like a dimmer by diminishing the power through the fixture proportionally according to the temperature where the probe is. In the basking area, both heat and light matter I believe, but the ability of the animal to warm itself by basking is the particularly important part.
The...
