i'll try to post some pics soon - i have to downgrade the pixels on my canon first. everyone's doing well so far - got some unadulterated melanogaster for the time being from my friends in the cellular dept. the babies are quite inefficient in catching them however.
thanks for the quick replies!
I've got them in the exoterra as of now - unplanted, with some scheffelera and a ficus benjamina in pots. Tons of vines for them to get around on and the temp in the area is around 75C. Gonna try to drop it down lower however. I have a reptisun 5.0 in there...
I bought a female xanth Jackson's at the Daytona herp show and low and behold, she was gravid and I have a bunch of little bundles of joy this morning. Pics later - right now I have some options.
12x12x12 Exoterra - planted or unplanted?
or
16x12x20 Screen cage - with schefflera...
So what's the general consensus on water conditioning? Reason why I ask is that it always seems that when I mist (I use a pump-handle pesticide sprayer, obviously never used with pesticides) my male Oustalets sometimes has his eyes irritated it seems for a few hours. None of the other chams...
Cool. Great suggestions! I have a long shallow sort of pan I can fill with water and put the shelving in. Maybe I'll post some pictures later. There's lots of cham-cage organization changes coming... What I really should do is grab some horny toads - they could eat the ants I catch ; )
Set up a tub to house my crickets. I live in Tallahassee, FL - and we have a real problem with sugar ants. I went out to grab some feeders for the chams, and the tub was overrun with ants. It was ironic to see the crickets being pestered by another insect (they were pestering me when 200...
I was going to go through Eco Regional. I was looking at tempeli, dilepis, and possibly, melleri. I'm waiting to see what's available at the Daytona show before I make any decisions.
excellent suggestions. thank you :) In a world full of bloggers and people who "knew someone, that knew someone, who did something," I like firsthand info, especially for pets. I'll look up the reptaid and get some before I actually order the buggers. Supposedly they've been on hand for a...
I was debating about purchasing some wild caught specimens - and I've read a lot about the warnings and potential pitfalls of keeping WC animals. I've located some local herp vets and the chams (when and if I get them) will be making a visit to a vet soon after delivery. What's some general...
Crotons can be fairly toxic. Though listed as safe to have in a tank, some herbivorous-curious species, like veileds, might find it fascinating enough to munch on. Judging from the fact that we even avoided crotons around the house as a kid because of dogs and cats - I'd avoid them. Shame...
I grabbed these 5 baby rudis chameleons from a reptile show awhile back from a supplier who wasn't feeding them. I expected them to not last, but decided to hydrate and feed them anyways. That was about a month ago. They've been doing great - eating D. hydei and pinhead crickets. I recently...
lol my Veiled, Barry White, is undeniably nasty - and will hiss, puff, bite, and generally try to look as intimidating as possible. I try not to handle mine much - too much stress is never a good thing. My Jackson's, Marvin, is totally chill though, as is the Oustalet's and my five Rudis...
I'm about a year and a half into the whole chameleon-keeping experience, and I have to say, its been really rewarding! But I was worried when I was reading older posts about how dangerous the "coiled bulb" fluorescent lights are for chams. I've never used that type of bulb until today...
I'm considering purchasing 2 C. dilepis in order to potentially (as in a year in the future) try to breed them. I've heard that there have been no successful breeding attempts thus far. Is this due to problems in sex determination or is it compounded by other difficulties as well, ie, babies...
