Hello, I'm also new to the hobby, but I do know that chameleons do indeed shed in segments or patches.
My first idea is, maybe the temperature is off. Perhaps she is at the top of the cage in her dark colors to better absorb the heat? I believe a veiled female such as her requires an 80...
I double checked and it's apparently when their nails are ripped out of the nail bed that they won't grow back. But, not to derail, yes they definitely need their claws. @VeiledMoodRing enjoy your lil veiled toe imprints haha
OMG! Yes! I forgot to mention!
I place an empty pot where I want the plant to go, and then put my repotted plant inside of that pot so it's easier to put in, as well as easier to swap out should the time come.
I believe chameleon claws don't regrow, so you're not supposed to trim their nails. You just have to get used to their super powerful grip, or maybe wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
This is a little doodle to give an idea of how I support the plants weight. I kind of have a diagonal branch underneath to help support the weight from two points.
Excuse the creepy night photo, but what I did was grab some of the chunkiest, thickest, longest sticks I could find, sawed off the curvature and used these as supports on each corner of the enclosure. They are tied fairly tightly at multiple points with fishing line, that way there's no damage...
My three lizard friends!
Bananas and Oranges have been with me for over ten years, and Spooble is my newest little baby.
I also have three cats and a couple of hissers. Lots of critters in my home, for sure.
I always enjoy playing Monster Hunter. The creature design is just inspiring in that one.
Final Fantasy XIV is a guilty pleasure, too. These are the two games I frequent, but I also enjoy horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. This is just my kind of conversation xD
Hello! Your boy is super cute and reminds me a lot of my little guy.
There's going to be quite a bit of text here, but bare with me:
I want to go over the enclosure stuff first off. These guys grow very fast and they do well in their adult-sized home even at this size. He will need a 2x2x4 home...
I went here, and I would also recommend Dr. Stevens. They seemed quite familiar with chameleons too :)
Edit: one of the nurses there also formerly worked at the state reptile rescue.
My last batch of BSFL, I tried to put them in ground up oatmeal but...It was basically a flour at that point and they just dried up orz. I felt such a fool because that was 100 little buggies meeting an untimely end from my own mistake. I really appreciate all the advice! I don't have that coco...
Yup! I've been keeping his humidity in recommended ranges. I'm so happy for him to have a proper little eye. He's so cute! Very timid little guy but I'm sure he'll open up and give me that proper veiled sass ^^
I wanted to give an update on little Spooble. The eye ointment seemed to soften up whatever was in his eye enough to the point where it was able to be flushed out on Friday.
He never lets me get good pics but you can see the difference even so! It seems like some dead skin cells were forming a...
I have a couple of these, do you think that's ventilated enough for the BSFL? How often do you feed them and anything in particular that keeps them from smelling too awful?
I'll keep that in mind. I currently use repashy bug burger and/or this roach chow to sustain the roaches. Does that sound alright? On top of feeding the selected roaches for a couple hours on my gutload cube?
I'm back with a question now that I'm getting used to the bug care aspect of chameleon owning.
Which bugs need to be gutloaded?
Currently I leave roach chow and/or bug burger with my dubias at all times, and every morning I pick out like 11-13 and leave a bit of thawed, homemade gutload cube for...
It's truly so sweet how Mango just wants to hang out of the nice warm branch that is your arm.
Stella, though. Well, she's kind of sweet in her own way. So spicy and fierce, but doesn't seem put off by the pouch scritches in the end. Very cute videos 🥺
Oh man, I hope these guys feel that same sense of relief you get when you clean the eye boogies away from procedures like this.
Update: The little guy's eye opened up an hour or so later, but I got him on schedule to see a vet on friday because I know cham eyes closing is a big no-no. I'll give...
