🧐 Sorry, but...

100 degrees basking temperature??? 😳 Wow! I wonder how many chameleons are going to suffer or perish because of this info? It’s also a bit incomplete, like calcium with D3 and multivitamin info and UVI. I really wish they would reference the forums so owners can get help when things go wrong. 😔

Another in the series of what not to go to in your research of chameleon husbandry.
What is even more worrying the number of people finding the answers useful & eating it up hope that's not the sole source of info these to be chameleon owners go to, perhaps some of the petshops give their advice from the wiki đŸ˜±

Jeez—tough room!

My thought is..... who tf wrote this

it’s kinda like newbie word vomit
It was co-written by Jaime Nalezny, DVM along with 77 other co-authors. I suspect (but don't know) that the co-authors were the authors of the sources used, including chameleonforums.com.
This may mean it was written by a staff writer, then reviewed by Dr. Nalezny—IDK

If, by "newbie word vomit" you mean weasel words, then I agree, however I don't think there was any intent to mislead—rather, I think to CYA—made necessary by an overlitigious society.

I am beside myself. Liars.
What—exactly—did they LIE about? Incomplete or incorrect information are not lies.

it wasn't has bad as these replys made me think before clicking on it lol. Still doesnt help anyone without details.
I didn't think that was the intent. It appears the intended title of the article was:

4 Ways to Take Care of a Chameleon - wikiHow

This shows up when googling the article, on the browser tab when it loads, and is reflected in the METHODS to the right of the introductory paragraph.

Only those whose keepers stop reading when they get to that point. The rest of that sentence qualified with:
but it can vary by the chameleon’s age and species.

They did—three times.

16. https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/health/vet/
That's 3 out of 19 chances of finding the forums—more than most of the other sources—equal to one (by my count—ICBW).

It's a "wiki" and like all wikis, I don't think it was ever intended to be an all-encompassing go-to reference for all things chameleon, but rather a starting point to present a smattering of information to whet whistles, and allow/encourage people to go further via links, Q&As, references, searches, etc.

I have never seen an online reference on ANY subject that's going to please all the people all the time.
This one certainly isn't perfect—I don't believe for a nanosecond it was intended to be.
But I've seen worse—much worse, and I think others here have too.

IMO, take it for what it is—one source (that got all its material from other sources—what a novel idea! ) out of umpteen godzillion sources that pop up when searching chameleon care. Nothing more.

Oh ok, I did not read the references listed at the bottom. 👍 Although, like myself, I’m not sure if most readers will read all the references and click on each reference to verify in which specific case the wikihow information is applicable. But I do hope that this gets more people into the forums. And though there are some species and ages that can tolerate the 100 degrees, they seem to refer to the commonly kept Veileds most often in the wikihow, and I haven’t read through every thread on here, but most times 100 degrees is not the recommended max temp. But as you said, they do state that it varies so hopefully the new keepers reading that will do more research. â˜ș
