24*24*48 aluminum screen cage problems

Every chameleon that has ever been in one of these cages seems to wear out their nails and they fall when climbing on this screen. I move them to the large Zoomed enclosure and they have no issues. The zoomed enclosure has a lot better and a more sturdy screen. What is the deal w/ these aluminum screen enclosures? I have weaved vine and lined the top of the enclosure and on the sides the green plastic fencing ( wich looks tacky I think). Any recommendations on these enclosures? Thanks for the advice.

I like how you incorporated the vines on the fencing beeze. Scarlett your enclosure has come a long way and I know how you hate the the fencing on the door but the screen is to weak for your big guys. Look how beeze used the fencing and good luck. See you soon.

Hey, just a question, not a criticism. Why do people spend so much money on these cages only to have to "fix" them with snow fencing, etc? Aren't there other brands that come out of the box just how you like them. Again, not a criticism as we don't have those enclosures here and I have never seen them. Maybe they work "as is" for some chams and not others? I have yet to find an enclosure I like, so it's a good thing I have a handy husband.

Because, my other chameleon had no problem climbing the screen, he used branches more often.
The smaller screening also allows me to use whatever feeders I want. When used in conjunction with the hardware netting, I get the benefit of larger holes for gripping, while keeping whatever feeders I want inside.

Ok, I was just wondering. Thanks.

I've never had a problem with these enclosures.
I've never lined the interior of any of mine.
All my chameleons have their nails/toes intact.

You have a lot of foliage in there for your panther to climb on. I dealt w this issue a while back and many people recommend the fencing. If you hate using that stuff just stick w zoomed. You know the screen is sturdy, doesn't wear out the nails and feeders can't escape. However, since you have already purchased several aluminum enclosures and have screen climbers you should get some more fencing and line on the doors also.

Climbing the screen is not a natural behavior for chams. If one is doing it constantly you need to look at your husbandry, cage size, and decor. Most likely one or more are inadequate.

There will always be exceptions to the rule and chams that climb screen no matter what. But I would check the things I listed before resorting to adding hardware cloth to the inside of the cage.
