Hey guys,

Im a new amilobe panther chameleon owner and I want to feed my cham the best diet I can. I got him about 5 days ago. And he didn't eat for the first 2 days and since then has a ferrous apeptite. Right now his diet is 6 small crickets, 5 meal worms and 1 butterworm a day with 1 wax worm a week. Is this a good diet or should I change I feed one more then the other.

Gutloaded crickets are great, meal worms are OK, but they have hard exoskeletons which have chitin in them which can cause impaction . Butterwoms and Waxwoms are basically just little balls of fat which shouldn't be fed too often unless you are trying to raise the weight of the cham.

So what would be an ideal diet for developing chameleons? I heard butterworms and waxworms were good for babies as their growing?

Some good additions would be super worms (not meal worms), dubia roaches, horn worms and silkworms, just to name a few.

yup, thats true in moderation. keep the butters and wax as a treat, not a stape.. id ditch the mealworms. if you could find any small silks, those would be great! make those crix nice & juicy with gutload goodness! good gutload is extremely important. suppliment schedules mean very little without a good gutload.

I'd recommend using a few more crickets and adding some small silkworms (if you can get them) instead of the butters and wax worms. The silks are great for hydration and if you gutload the crickets well your cham will get the proper nutrients. If you can find small superworms I think they'd be okay too. Keep the butters and waxworms for treats on occasion but definitely make them minimal.

Thanks for all the help, I have only fed him 1 wax worm and 1 butterworm so far over the past week but bought a bunch so just wanted to make sure so I can make my Cham as healthy as can be. I saw some silkworms and superworms at the petshop but they were like double the size of a butterworm. I'll focus his diet on crickets and get rid of the mealworms.

Thanks

If I remember correctly you can put the waxworms in the fridge and they'll stay alive for quite a while. Just give them a minute to warm up before you feed them and they'll start squirmin' around again. They're still a good treat once in a while :)

Talk to the petstore you go to and see if they can get smaller feeders for you. It's still important to have variety in the diet. Silks are mainly water so if they look a little too big it's okay as long as they're not massive.

keep the butterworms because they are high in calcium and has less fat than super-worms

get rid of the wax worms, there is no good nutritional value in them

silks are great feeders bt you still got to be sensible on the size you offer them at
