So I've had my guy for going on 4 years now. he has been great with relatively no serious issues along the way. Lately I've thought about finding him a new home since I'm very busy with work and am out the house a lot. I figured Id ride the summer out with him since I keep him outside and he does really well.

To begin I first noticed his aim being off when going for a bug that is ranging his cage but thought maybe it could be since he's only cup fed. Then maybe a week ago I came home for lunch and I saw he had fallen in his cup and was pretty bent up in there. I do not know how long he was in there. Since then his grip has been bad and he would have to search for branches in order to get a grip. He also would lay on branches and not lift up his body much. But he did keep mobile. he would eat though not much and drink normally. He began to fall or hang for a few days in a row. I put him in a bin with a plant and he just stays there n maybe eats 3 small roaches a day. His color is off as well.

I have a vet visit coming up tomorrow with a vet I have gone to before and don't really have confidence in his judgement on chameleons. I really just want some ideas I can go in there with and maybe questions I can ask or things I should ask for. THANKS. FINGERS CROSSED!

You'll want to review your supplementation schedule and gutload ingredients just in case something has been dropping off lately. He's a senior cham, so maybe he's got some arthritis or other orthopedic issues that bother him more now. Give him a denser network of perches and foliage so he can catch himself if he does lose his grip, and he can find places to lay on to rest his feet or legs.

Thanks for the reply I honestly primarily use calcium with Vit d3 I don't over do it and I don't over feed not sure if that can play a role.

If you used the calcium with D3 all the time, he probably got an overdose, and this can lead to skeletal and muscle control problems. The correct dusting schedule for adults is:

Plain calcium (NO vit D3) every feeding (a light amount)
Calcium with added D3 twice a month
Herp multi-vitamin dust twice a month

My guy passed today.... Took him to the vet this morning. I don't know what to think. He seemed fine as far as how he's been lately considering he seemed to be going downhill but death didn't seem imminent I feel like he still had life in him. He ate a bug the other day and drank a bit. Though he hasn't been eacting much he only had stopped eating n drinking completely maybe a day or 2 ago. The vet said he was weak which I had already known he got out two huge sperm plugs that had been there for a few days and he gave him fluids for dehydration via a shot on each side near the ribs.. He also drew blood. His said he would be checking for kidney disease as well as low calcium. I'm pretty upset and did not expect him to go.

Thank you!. I had no idea this is how it would play out I thought he had a couple years in him. He just made 4 this month or last I believe. These guys are special creatures. Not sure if I can bring myself to get another one maybe sometime in the far future. Here's to hoping!

Just a thought for some opinions but anyone think 3 shots and pulling two huge sperm plugs and the whole stress of the doc visit could have thrown my guy over the edge. It also was pretty hot here yesterday. I really didn't think he was ready to go yet so I'm really confused. The doc said the only thing that came out from the blood work was him being anemic.
