6 weeks old panther

If I were to buy a 6 weeks old panther? Would anyone recommend this? There will be shipping involve but within the state. I am not an expert nor new to chameleon. How fragile are they at 6 weeks old? I think they are still fragile but if the online store is selling it and shipping them out I would think it'll be ok? But hey, never know... Some people just care about the money and doesn't care if the baby will survive or not. Gimme some feedback folks.

Thank you for replying and giving me advice - thanking ahead of time;P

I wouldnt...rule of thumb i use is 3 months or 3 inches (snout to vent) ...some 2.5 onthers get that big. If they wanna guarentee him for 6 weeks then go ahead but i doubt they will.

Awesome that you asked the question!!! Here is my opinion.

I just purchased (Two weeks ago) a 8 week old panther from the SuperShow. He was from Chameleonsonly.com (Kammers). He was small but did really well. I didn't ship him I picked him up. If that is possible I would highly recommend it. It may be best (if the breeder will do it) if they would hold on to him for a little while longer. You say online store. If you don't mind if I ask, where are you buying him from?

I would highly recommend you consider purchasing from one of the site sponsors. They are all great breeders and will be there to help if you need them.

Is the breeder in a rush to get him out. That would raise some questions for me if they were.

If you do get him , I would recommend having some fruitflys available and maybe some very small crickets.

Although I've only received them, not shipped them, I have been told by someone VERY well known that babies ship just fine, when done correctly. From him, I've received 6 babies of two different species that were in the 4-5 week range (maybe less?), shipped coast to coast and all are thriving.

I think it all depends on your experience level. All I know is I lost some panther chameleons when I first started that I know if I knew what I know now, they would have never died and the younger the chameleon is the greater the chances of something happing. And even when I started I was very experience in reptiles in general and very dedicated to finding out exactly what they need, but that wasn't enough, I needed experience. Me personally, I would not sell a chameleons under 3 months unless it is to someone I know who has experience with them.

p.s. Kent has tons of experience

The key thing you said was " I'm not an expert", Make your self an expert before buying any Cham or you will end up disapointed and regretfull. There Is so much information out there so read every webpage you can find until you cant find any more cham info and them buy your pet. and you wont find yourself coming to these fourms to ask questions and chameleon owner out perspective buyer should already know. ;)

I had mine at around 7 weeks. The breeder normally doesnt like to move them until at least 3 months, however he was so confident in the one I had due to his feeding and drinking habits, he let me take him early, he guarenteed it for a month. I've now had him for 8 weeks and he is doing fine. I read up for months before I had him and felt reasonably confident in my own ability to raise him. So I guess if your confident enough and feel you prepared it should be ok, but goes without saying the older the better as they will be less (but not totally) vulnerable.

thanks for all of your thoughts. I already know that its a bad idea for me to get it, thats why Im going to wait 5-6 months if I'm planning to get a baby panther. Or I might not even get a baby one.

reptiledepot has the 8 week old for 129.00 and the 16 weeks i believe for 179.99 They been around for a long time just like lllreptile from what I remembered 4-5 years ago. I'm getting good reviews on lllreptile about their cages and maybe crickets but bad reviews on their live stock/chameleons. Anyhow I'm happy with my veileds and pygmys for now. Its addicting and yes panther is definately going to be my next chameleon!
