A Greenhouse Surprise!!

I was watering and feeding everyone who was inside the greenhouse today. Then to my surprise I found this baby Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) inside my greenhouse. I did not kill him I just got out a rake and bucket and moved him down by the creek which should be a good place for him to mature:D.

My brother and I who are big about reptiles do not kill rattlesnakes when we come across them.

This time of year when the come out of hibernation we normally see two or three a month without even looking for them. If you were hunting for them you could locate many more especially the younger ones.

He liked the greenhouse!!:p Im hoping to find Timber Rattlers this year. Most people who I talk to say most of them are rather docile and not really aggressive. Same with Copperheads but if you ask the average Joe they will say they will go out of their way to attack you. Those are the types that never even seen one:rolleyes:

He did like the greenhouse actually I have had Rattlesnakes in the greenhouse before. I think they are attracted to the high humidity and the warmth. The Rattlesnake really was not a big fan of the rake. He was mostly docile before. However, when I started using that to move him into the bucket to transport him he really started to bite. I saved his life though if it was my father that found him he probably would have killed him.

Below the dam at Summersville lake is a good spot to find Copperheads and Timbers.

Actually this time of year when the adults mate and everyone is on the move after hibernation. When we were still on the ranch we would occasionally see some giants. Western Diamondbacks that were six to seven feet long which were awesome to watch especially if your big about reptiles.

That is fantastic!!! Far to many people just kill snakes even when not a threat to them,moving him was the BEST thing to do!!! My hat is off to you :cool:
 
Very nice!! MY 7y/o son found this while hunting for Easter eggs, glad he found it and not one of the other kids that would have freaked out. Its a C. scuttalatus

A Mojave Rattlesnake that's great. At my latitudes they are waking up this time of the year.
