I need to check if my cham is pooping or not. How and when is the best way to do this. She feels threatened when i watch her and hides and keeps an eye on me. Any suggestions?
You can't watch her all day to see if she is pooping, although they do seem to keep to a routine: my adult male Veiled usually goes to his 'poop' branch after his first morning misting session in the morning. Obviously, this all depends on how regularly they have been eating.
You will be able to find droppings in her cage though, if you don't actually see her doing the deed. Provided you keep the floor of the cage clean, you should find them quite easily, but as mentioned, sometimes they stick to the leaves, so check all the plants. Also, check inside the pots of the plants, as they sometimes like to aim for the soil.
Chameleon droppings are quite recognisable - they usually consist of three pellet-like parts: two black/brown pellets, and one white, softer pellet (the urates). If the urates aren't white, but are yellow/orange instead, this is usually an indication of dehydration in the cham.
If she is not leaving any droppings in the cage, then she could be impacted, and this could be the reason she is not eating.
