A rare Christmas present indeed:)

A rare Christmas present indeed:D (C. africanus)

My gravid female C. africanus laid 32 eggs after 3 days of digging in a rubbermaid trash bin with about 3 feet of dirt in it. She dug a third of the way around the perimeter and then to the bottom. She looks great even after all that!:D

I had to take the pic through the screen because as soon as I open her cage she changes colors.

Dang, we need to find you a guy. You are in the same boat I was in, even the same cham. Just can't seem to get her a guy.

Beautiful cham! It's obvious you take great care of her because she doesn't look stressed even after laying that many eggs :D Great job with her!

I do have a male for her, hes just not big enough yet:) and yes, I try and take excellent care of all my chams. I treat them better then I do myself! but they dont seem to mind that:D

Congratulations, and welcome to the club. Does this mean that Calif. is winning you have 32, Motherlode has 33 and I've got 43. Yeah my little girl also took 3 days to lay, I didn't think she was going to make it she looked so sad when she would kick the dirt out of her hole. She ended up getting a eye infection, I've taken her to the Vet but only time will tell.

It seems that egg laying takes a lot out of this species. My female took 3 days to lay, dug all the way down to the bottom of a rubbermaid trash barrel, and ripped her arm up in the process. It got infected pretty badly but I was able to treat it with baytril. Unfortunately, she lost the use of the arm but aside from that has made a full recovery. She's put on so much weight I'm pretty sure she's going have another clutch again soon. There is going to be a ton of africanus in the US when all these eggs hatch, I hope those of us lucky enough to have eggs will work together to establish this species here. I haven't seen them around at all since that original import a few months ago.

My female is developing a swollen arm problem as well. She somewhat uses it and I'm going to take her to the UC Davis vet facility as soon as possible. Probably going to be sometime next week (which is a long wait for my preference except the are by far the best in vet facility in Central California). Hate to say this however it seems my clutch of 33 eggs is starting to mold over. I still hope I end up with a pair of this species.

good luck with the eggs, hopefully some make it. Let me know what they end up doing at the vet lab, I'll be curious to see what treatment they recommend and how it works out.
