Age help

I know a question similar to this has not long been posted but I'm wondering how old my veiled chameleon is its only 6 inches long (including tail) and I thought it to be about 4-5 months old but my friend has just bought one and its about 12 inches long and she has been told by the vet that its the same age as mine can a size difference be so big even if they are the same age I'm worried now incase I'm doing something wrong.

12 inches sounds massive for 4-5 months. My guy is 9-10 months old and he is 14 inches. He was about 12 inches around 7-8 months old, but he is a big boy. He's as big as some one hear olds (from what I read and weight wise.)
