whats up yall, i just made a big cricket keeper outa storage bin and whatnot. came home today and noticed a few escaped. i know of some stuff out there that keeps bugs from climbing, used just for this case. but i dont wanna lose more until i find it.

anyone know of home remedy to keep crickets from getting to rim of container? i was about to use pam and spray a line around the rim.

help please....

What type of container are you using. my crickets never climb out more often i lose them in transit (don't tell my wife:eek::D). some people have said vasoline ( not sure how chams would do eating lots of this though most likely would cause looser stools) i use a 2' x 3' by 2' high rubbermaid container and make sure my eggcrate is far away from the sides. i also use a critter keeper as a last meal location, no escapes yet

hope this helps

yeah im using a rubbermaid with retrofitted sides to screen. didnt think they could climb it but i guess i got the wrong one. i would think pam would be better than vasoline.

Sticky side down against the container, it's too slick for them to walk on. I use the thicker clear stuff though. I also use it for my dubia roaches and it keeps the babies from climbing out.

the deeper the better

i use a deep rubbermaid plastc bin and they seem to do just fine without anyescapes except when i go to take them out then they jump all out in my house lol

I used to use cricket keepers and those **** crickets would squeeze out between the slits in the top to let in air. I now use big round plastic tubs I used to keep flower and sugar in my pantry. They are 10" tall and one is 12" and the other is 8" radius. I just put a piece of egg crate in the bottom being aware I need some room all around for food and water and capture. They can not crawl up the sides nor jump out. It is easy to wash them in hot water. (No I don't use chemicals of any kind to wash any of my critter things.)

In a few weeks I am going to go for a crate of 1/2" crickets. I have a 13 gallon garbage can I'm not using and an egg crate will fit terriffic standing up and room for a couple of plastic lids for the gutload and water stuff and a plastic container for "salad". Easy peasy and cheap!

i hate crickets!!!! i bought 500 tues and im about down to 100!! they are escaping by the droves, i found one hole in the screen so i taped it, every ten minutes i go in the porch and thers another dozen jumpin everywhere.

i tape the top with packing tape and i see that they cant climb to the rim, i check the hotglued screen all around for holes and nothing.

this is driving me nuts, good thing im about to switch to silkies for a staple.

i just put the whole damn bin outside, if they are gonna be a bunch of huidini's then let em chance the wild. little bastards.

Once you get your first batch of bulk superworms you'll never waste time with crickets again. Crickets die easily and escape.

YEAH, I was holding off on supers cuz she is still small, but i think im gonna go to the store today and get some. now i will have mealies, silkies, and supers. i dont use mealies anymore though. just they just sit there and die.lol oh well. im gonna try alternating silkies and supers, so she dont get spoiled on supers.
