I don't think I share enough pictures! Here are all my furry and scaly kiddos!

This is my baby girl Moki. She's been fighting lymphoma for almost 2 years now but still loves being my mountain climbing buddy.

My two 5 year old ornate box turtles. They hatched at a rescue from an injured wc female:

And my 3-toed box turtles, from left to right - Pirate (probably a 3-toed/Ornate hybrid), Raisin, Petey, Bebop, and Lola. Pirate, Raisin and Lola were rehabilitated rescues from GCTTS. Petey is around 30-40 years old (I've had her for 20 and she was a mature adult when I got her) and Bebop is her son, now 10 years old.

Welcome to my little zoo. :)

Wow, I knew you had tortoises, but I didn't know you had that many! You should open up your own little zoo - quite a nice collection of creatures you have!

Deb

I did used to have ferrets, and thus my user name. ;) I loved my weasels and they would actually sleep on my bed like cats all curled up next to me! The ironic thing is when I came back from college (couldn't have ferrets in college so my mom had them) I was absurdly allergic to them suddenly. And cats. Didn't have a single allergy when I lived with them though - it just developed over the few years I was gone. So once my last ferret finally passed at a ripe old age after having surgery to remove cancer years before I haven't gotten any more. And I slowly managed to reverse my cat allergy by getting a cat. And then another... And my iguana is ancient (I've had her since I was in 5th grade)! I didn't know they lived that long either. :p And she's still feisty like she's a youngster. She doesn't climb as well as she used to though. She might be setting some kind of record, who knows! Texas sun and humidity is favorable for iguanas apparently. :)

Wow! Great collection of critters! Where do you find the time to tend to all of them??

That's one of the great things about reptiles! I love them all dearly but they don't care if they don't see me for a while. So I don't feel guilty when I get too busy to spend quality time with them like if they were snugly little mammals who crave attention. Just the dogs and cats, and the dogs get 3 walks a day and every few days we go on a hike so they can really run and play. In the summer the chams get rotated through the outdoor cage and the small torts get time outside to graze. Everybody gets fed and watered every day, or every other day for the chams, and I usually spend a decent amount of one day a week doing animal chores (litter boxes, cricket boxes, cage cleaning, etc). To be fair, the big tortoises and the iguana are still with my mom in Texas since she has a better yard and climate for them for now so that does help, but they wouldn't take up much more time. Animal chore days are happy days. :)

Quite a fanominal collection you got :) !

Nice little zoo you have there:)

Absolutely awesome to see them all!!!!
They all look like they are doing well!

Thank you all! You wouldn't think there'd be enough room to love so many, but somehow the heart expands for each one. :)

Wow, what a collection you have there! I love the pic of your iguana riding on your tortoise, and your chams are adorable! :D

Nice collection! I love your turtle/tortoise collection. I had a Sulcata tortoise and eastern box turtle. The eastern box someone kept and then released in the wild so i kept him till he died about a year ago.

WOW, all those kids must keep you busy!:D

Nice collection!!!

When you said gopher tortioses, what local? Curious, cause they are protected here in Florida. We can only enjoy them walking along our yards and eating our gardens-hehe

Pretty positive they're Gopherus agassizii species. I inherited them through a rescue from someone who left their collection to the rescue when they died. So before I got them about 15 years ago from the rescue their origin is a but of a mystery. A lot of my reptiles are rescues - all but one of the box turtles, the gophers, the sulcatas had shell defects that made them undesirable even though they've grown out of them, and my iguana was on death's door at a petstore (back when petstores had an interest in their animals so they gave her to me to nurse back to health). They're native to my area and protected from collection here too. They also carry mycoplasma so are unfit for release back into their native environment regardless. Releasing once captive tortoises is one of the reasons almost all the wild Florida tortoises also have mycoplasma now, which is incurable. Much better to leave them in the wild where they belong! But now that they're in captivity that is the best place for them to be to protect the wild ones.

Wow i hope to have a bunch of pet like that latter down the road just not sure if my wife will let it happen lol...very nice pics..love the tortises and chams..all beautifulll..gongrats on ;your mini zoo

Thank you and I agree to leave them in the wild, protect nature! Didn't know about the mycoplasma thing, learned something:) I was more curious about neighbors, because here if someone(crazy neighbor) sees one in your yard for more then a few days, they freak out and call someone saying your keeping it as a pet. Even though we had one naturally living in our yard(it made a home under our shed) for ever until a new niehbor moved in and complained we were forcing it to stay there. Don't know how, we didn't have a fence:( Wildlife person moved him/her to a state park though and said we hadn't done anything wrong. He said it was best because alot of homes were being built up around us. We agreed and were happy to see him/her go to a more natural enviroment.

So that is why I say we can only watch them cross the yard:) (Crazy Nieghbors)

You are doing a wonderfull thing providing for all those kiddies!!!

How cool to have wild torts coming through the yard! I would love that. I'm a bit impressed that public awareness of wild tortoises is so good that your neighbors would report it, even though it sounds like it was unneccessary in your case. We have privacy fences in Texas so no one sees into our yard unless they make an effort. Colorado doesn't seem as into privacy fences so I'm a bit worried about putting my chelonians and chams outside in the future. I'm going to have to build more secure caging for my valuable star tortoise and put locks on the outdoor cham cages, for passing people and predators since it will be easier for them to get in.

awww - I just love all your little critters :D thanks so much for sharing them :) I bet you just love to come home to all that critter love :)
