Ambilobe Panther Chameleon Help

Hi all,

For the past week i have been doing some pre reading on Panther Chameleons. I went to a reptile shop here in England last week and they had two Panther Chameleons, one male and one female. I instantly wanted one as, personally, i think they're the coolest reptiles I've seen. I've previously had Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos for the past 8 years. Recently the Beardies passed and I've been looking for something to fill the void of the loss.

I don't like to jump straight into buying a new reptile. What i want to do is do some background reading and understand their behaviors extensively before i purchase. To allow myself time to do this, I've set myself a target date of the start of October. I don't want to jump into this head first and want to spend time getting my head around enclosures, feeding, tenancies etc to be able to be an educated owner.

Any help anyone could give me on the set up or anything else they feel i should take into account before getting one, i would be very, very grateful.

Thank you all in advance :D

Welcome! I'm in the same boat, waiting to get a panther, but I've been doing lots and lots of research. If you click on "care resources" on the left side of the web page, you'll find lots of info.

Also, I'm looking to get my chameleon from one of the site's sponsor breeders, Screameleons. If you go to screameleons.com and hit learn, there's a bunch of useful, easy to digest information there too.

I did research for several months and spent about 30 days putting together my enclosure before purchasing. I'm a bout 3 weeks in so I'm still a newbie. One thing that is a little challenging is finding a balanced diet for your Cham. I'm also still trying to consistently get my Cham to drink. I don't have drainage set up yet so it makes it a little more challenging. Buy a big enough screen cage, make plans on a great gutload and housing multiple feeders and go with a panther for your first Cham.

Spend everyday reading threads here.... I spent day and night on here... When I was at work and had a few minutes to spare I was here... At night lying in bed with my tablet I was here....read up especially in the health/vet threads. That way you can also learn the signs of illnesses. You'll learn lots of great information here!! :)

I always say, when your hand is shaking like you need that drink, then it is time. Keep reading every available second until then.
