Anyone have them? Need some input!
We had them in the house(wild and free ranging) when we lived in FL. and have wanted to get them here as pets in OR.
I found some on craigslist for free this past weekend and talked DH into letting me have them.
Well, even if I wasnt sure before....once I got there...there was NO WAY I was leaving without them.
Idiot that owned them....said he had 2, then realized there were 3 because it had been hiding and he thought it had died.
Dirt in cage was SO dry.... no moisture at all. I poured it out and had a clean tank without washing it! Did I say dry.... it was BONE DRY.
Plants 1/2 dead, whether from lack of moisture or ?
No temp gauge, no humidity gauge, 1 light(which was cold, so hadnt been turned on in awhile and we picked them up at Noon). NO climbing things.
Dirt, 4 sad plants and 3 very sad anoles.
His ad was like these are his babies, no time for them, wants them to go to good home, need to give reply about what you can do for them and know about their care, etc.
So I got there assuming they would be a lot better than they were.
3 skinny little girl anoles.
Needless to say.....I have spent a ton getting them set up right. We had already read up on their care, etc. lots of time. We have cham and beardie experience, etc. and luckily I had part of the equipment already from past reptiles, etc.
They are in same tank they came in but now have branches, better moist dirt, new and better plants, gauges for temp and humidity, new light and are eating and drinking and have perked up a ton.
My question is.....how do you fatten up an anole? I do not want fatties as I know that isnt good for their health but these guys are skin and bones, I can see ribs, pelvis, etc. They are moving well and eating baby crickets dusted with calcium. I have seen them drinking.
I am all prepared for them not to make it, but they seem to be doing ok. Which is more than I expected at this point.
I just want to put a little meat on them so they look more like the pretty pics of anoles than little skeletons.
Any input on how to do this??
