Another stupid question...

Hi again,

Sorry another question that I can't seem to find the answer to online.

What is the difference between giant mealworms and superworms and how do I know which one I've bought? They looks like huge mealworms but then so do all the pictures of superworms that I've seen online.

Thanks, Amy :)

mealworms are very chitinous and not as healthy as superworms, superworms are darker than mealworms, and if the box says Giant Mealworms than TA DA! you dont have superworms. sometimes superworms are called king mealworms though, but you can tell because like i said they are darker, and smell different :p

Super, or Giant Mealworms are merely a different species of mealworm. A little larger than the regular mealworm. There are also some varieties that have simply been exposed to growth hormones so they become oversized mealworms from what I understand.

Ok...my problem is I bought some "superworms" from a local pet shop. I thought they were just giant mealworms. I asked the assistant if they stocked superworms. He said "well, we have some super-giants over there" and directed me back to the large mealworm type things. The box only says SG for super-giant which seems to just be the size.

The feeder database has no information on superworms...

:)
I don't give my chameleons access to mealworms of any kind (regular and giant).
I believe they are using hormone to grow the giant meal worms.
ughhh.. i don't want my chameleon get any problems from eating that thing.
