Ant problem

So these little tiny ants have decided to invade the potted plant I had in my 5 mo. old panther's cage. Needless to say, I removed the plant. However, they still are trailing around. I want to get rid of them, I WILL NOT USE PESTICIDES because they are crawling around his cage. I heard cinnamon will work to deter them... will that have any negative effects if a few ants are eaten?

Any advice for ant deterrents is welcome :D

I HATE ants!

I usually wipe the area with white vinigar, it smells but works for a while.

Just had a similar problem with a ficus too, I had to rinse the roots and repot it

put the cage on Weather treated legs and put the legs in coffee cans fillled about 3" high with vegetable oil.

It won't hurt a chameleon to eat a couple of ants but they usually don't. The problem with ants is that they can hurt your chameleon if not controlled.

If your cage is one of the all aluminum screened cages on the market you might have a problem getting rid of the ants completely unless you take this precaution. This is what I do before assembling. Unassembling your cage is us up to you. I use silicon sealant and put it into every frame corner so ants cannot get into it. If they do, they will never go away. :(

Taking apart your set up, replacing the soil and washing everything off is about all you can do right now. As for preventing the infestation, you should probably find the nest and use an ant product. Just use it as far away from your pets as possible. There are a lot of products out there and some people like the Amdro for serious ant problems but you have to block the area from your pets and it needs to be dry. You can use diatomaceous earth around the outside perimeter of your home or on the ants' path. Look here.

Good luck to you.
