Never have I ever thought I would loss my cricket colony and barely save my roach colony... I woke up this morning to hundreds of ants in my cricket bin. Luckily they didn't find my roach colony. I have ant traps out but they aren't going in them. What else can I use for the ants that's would be safe around my reptiles? TIA

I have had numerous invasion in my cricket bin. I keep mine outside under a large patio awning. What I do is take very large cookie sheet and fill it with soapy water and then set the bin down on that. It creates a moat and it works!!!

Another thing that works really well is diatamacious earth.its a very fine white powder.I use irregular for everything.just sprinkle it around the area u want to keep ant free.hope this helps

I realize you are trying to get rid of them. I was giving you a solution to keeping them out of your container. Having them outside I don't worry about eliminating them altogether, just keeping them out of my bin. But if you do get rid of them and they come back, and you do what I say, they won't have a way back in to destroy your feeders.

Another possible solution to keep them out(not kill them) is an old gardeners solution. Coffee grounds.make a thick solid circle around the area that you want to keep them out of(some even do around their house/doorways) and ants will not cross this due to the smell. We used to get a hoard invading the house through our back door every summer and once we made a solid line across the threshold, they never came in that door for the rest of the season.

thank you for the advice

Thank you all for the advice. I'm still in the process of cleaning up the ants. We are living in our aunt and uncles house til we can get back on our feet. We're living on the back porch that apparently was sealed very well. So tomorrow I'm going outside to where they entered and put some granules by it. Then I want to rearrange the room after we get everything situated. But I picked up one of our drainage containers and going to put water in it and put the bin in there. Going to put some coffee grounds around the container and the enclosure. Then tomorrow I need to move Ringo and Starrs plants outside and do a deep clean to the enclosures. Tomorrow is going to be a LONG day!!!
