well i was board at work one day, and thinking about chameleons when i thought of a good idea. you know thos pop up hampers that they sell at department stores. i was wondering if you could make thos into cham cages.
it doesnt seem to weird. i bought a pop up explorarium thing, and it seems like you can make one of these no problem.

first you buy a pop up hamper. (like $7 at my work, and they are like 18''x36'')
remove the hamper mesh carefully. notice how the thing pops up and make a mental note of it. now my mother has lots of screen becuase she has collected lots of crap in her day, so i have some already but you can just cut a section that would fit along the outside of the hamper. im not sure if you should put the screen in the inside or the outside but either or you will have to connect the pop up hamper to it somehow. ive been thinking about it (mostly at work) and zipties, thread (which would take a long time to do), or twist ties are all i can think of. when attaching the screen make it a little bit larger on the top and bottom so you can overlap it around the wire that pops up. you would have to make a bottom piece and attach it to it the same way.

thinking about it thread might work better in some areas but will take a long time.
if you have a grandma or mother in my case who likes to soe then give it to her.

any other ideas with this? do you think it would work?
it will be cheaper then the other things by like $10 or so, but you get to DIY.

hey thats a really good idea! i would use something like that to put my cham outside instead of having to move the whole cage in and out!

You can get the pop-up hampers that already have the mesh screening very cheap. That WOULD be a great idea for the summer. You could just turn them upside down over top of a plant or secured branch and weigh down the egdes so that it wouldn't move easily.

Now you've got me thinking ... and that can be dangerous!! LOL

Perhaps some of these would work !!

In the second one you could just cut out the material creating the shelves inside and perhaps even use this material to fashion some doors with velco to cover the holes??

that is a good idea. with the first one i was looking at the dorm caddy and its $4 and its 12x8 ish, and that could be an easy way to keep young chams in a screen cage. i wonder how they will hold up with the uv exposure?

I have an explorarium and I'm getting rid of it. IMO they are a PITA !! The zippered door is far too small to be useful as an eclosure and it's not really free standing .. you need to hang it. I suppose just for a temporary outdoor enclosure with a branch inside it may be OK. Not only are plants and decent sized branches difficult to get in or out try getting your cham out if he wants to run away from you.

I'm thinking that the mesh hampers would do a better job at a fraction of the cost. Personally I'll stick with the flexarium or something similar!

Good idea
Methinks that a simple chip clip would be enough to take care of the closure issue.
if the proper model could be found to begin with
all that you would need is a nice 5 gal plant to stick in the middle for support.
My problem would be that any adult would weigh down the entire thing
best for the young ones and sub adults as a day tripper outside.
even then I can imagine dozens climbing and tipping the thing over.
hummmm
worth experimenting with this summer
