Hi guys,
I have plenty of caterpillars from a butterfly my bf fed to his cham.
I'm not sure if they are toxic or not. The only info I could find is that they might be but it hasn't been proven
I'm waiting for them to turn into butterflies, cause I know the caterpillars may not be safe.
Please let me know if you have any info if they are toxic or not. I'm attaching pictures which are not mine.

That's pretty much all the info availabe:
"The moth's body fluids are poisonous. Its effects are not yet fully known, but they contain quantities of choline esters which are neurotoxic by interfering with the acetylcholine receptor."
from wikipedia

I don't know the answer to that. Maybe only the moth is poisonous and not the caterpillar? I do know that most insects are very specialized feeders and can only eat from certain groups of plants. But I do not know if they develop poison directly because of what they eat, or if it is developed in some other way.

Glad the chameleon has not become ill though.

im 99 percent sure there toxic because caterpillars with bright red orange or blue colors on them are usually poisonous

Thanks, I will definately not give them to by baby ;) I'm just curious, he didn't feed the caterpillar, but the butterfly.
