Arctic finally gives in!

So I’ve been working with my Nosy Be panther chameleon for a while I give him his space and he got a mistking and I always cup feed him and he would run over and just sit there and eat happily. I never forced him to come out or caused any un wanted stress. So today as I was cup feeding him and he just up and eats almost all the crickets then on his own decided to venture out into my arm and just came out and chilled outside his cage crawling around me for a while completely not scared at all!! I have pics!

Really how does that in their perspective work? Like since I feed him and water him and all he sees me as a safe spot and is now not afraid of me?

He also has ver short nails and can’t really grip too hard on my arm because of my hair is there a reason for the short nails?

Panthers don't have as strong a grip as some chameleons do and arms are big things for them to hold onto. The males nails aren't usually very long.

While chameleons will show signs of trust it's controversial as to whether they show more than that. Haven't you read this thread?

Oh that makes better sense because when my veiled was small he would grip on really strong. I will look into this thread thank you.

UPDATE: Arctic likes coming out of his cage at any chance he gets but makes a soft hissing noise when I move him around from hand to hand because if he climbs on me higher he loses grip and would fall. Does this mean he is agitated by me letting him hop from hand to hand?

In his cage? So the hissing when he’s on my hand doesn’t mean much? I mean he doesn’t get defensive or anything just hissed?

Sorry, I did not clarify. You should add cover to his enclosure. The hissing might mean he's a bit nervous, so be very calm during handling.

Okay thank you I’ll try to see if I can maybe find a pothos I was thinking of hanging one on the cage!

Great idea! Pothos are very easy to maintain in chameleon enclosures.

Yes. He's scared about your hand coming towards him. The chances of a cham falling are really low, because they have a very strong grip and they use their tail as an anchor.

His enclosure does look alot more filled, it will probably hold humidity alot better. Keep nit picking it until you get just the right amount of open space and thick jungle. His home looks pretty good, only thing I would recommend would be to get a t8 tubular uvb light to allow more uvb to be spread in the cage, and separate basking light. He looks like a happy little man

Yes of course lol very expensive but need to keep our pets happy and they’ll show us some beautiful colors! Also will be posting more when I can

Yea same here every time I feed him he chews up all the crickets he can and a few supers and then just hops on my hand and starts climbing and exploring lol hes not scared at all hell go on my shoulder and just chill. He also thinks my living room light is the sun because hell start basking lolol
