Ashy Panther

The last couple months, my 2 year old male panther Ambilobe has been ashy. It looks almost like dry skin. He hasn't shed in a while and the breeder I bought him from suggested I give him regular steamy showers to help speed along the shed process. He used to be really bright and colorful but recently he looks muddled. Any ideas what it might be? I am convinced he just needs to shed, but nothing I have done seems to work.

I am trying to breed him to my female right now, and I don't think she's impressed by his coloring at the moment.

So he has looked ashy for the past couple months? Is it possible for you to post pictures? Just for a better visual. If the ashen shade hasn't really changed that much, then it might be something else. I don't know if the preparation time between sheds takes that long.

Yes, he's looked ashy for about 2-3 months. He hasn't shedded in somewhere around 5-6 months.

First picture is of him before. Notice how bright his colors are.

The second picture is of him now. It's really hard to photograph, but his colors swim together. They don't stand out from each other. In person, his skin looks dry.
