Ive never owned a chameleon but have always wanted one. I have a full cage set up. 18" 18" 36" screen on all sides.....spot light, uva/uvb light...mister, drip system, thermometer(3) spaced at warmest middle and coolest spots...

I was told that a.heat pad under the tank would help keep humidity in...haven't.opened that yet though because I'm not sold on it!

I have a pure calcium low phosphorus, a calcium with D3, and a regular multi vitamin.
I've read everything I can find about jacksons...my question is would be a 1 1/2 month old baby male be too hard to care for, and if so what is the best age to get?

Any help would be great!

I think you can do without the under tank heater, get your refund on that and buy yourself a live plant like an umbrella plant or a ficus, maybe a small bromelia to add some color to the cage.

Will my set up be sufficient for a baby...I know they're pretty tempermental...and will the cage be too big for such a small little guy?

I wouldn't get one so young. At least 3 months old, and preferable even a little older. Jacksons babies, from what I understand, are rather delicate and aren't out of the fragile stage until they are at least 3-4 month old.

Baby jacksons are quite small and grow rather slowly, so at 1-1/2 months he will be tiny. They are delicate at that age until about 4 months old, so I don't think one that young would be a good first chameleon. If you do get him, he should do fine in that size cage (in the wild they have a ton of space ;-)), but just be sure he is finding his food ok. Ditch the under tank heater, that won't be of any use. Baby jacksons are sensitive to heat, so be sure that the highest temperature is not above about 75 degrees. You can offer a small basking area of 82 degrees as well if you want, although I don't do that for baby jacksons. Also, be sure night temperatures do not drop below 60 degrees.

I've decided you guys are right...going with a 6 month old male instead...

Returning the under heat pad...
Question though...do I still need a dripper if I have a mister?

I do not use a dripper with the mister, but i know a lot do. when I see a cham drinking, I do hand mist until they are done. I have the advantage of working from home and check on them very often, though...
