Bad Feeders

If anyone has dealt with fluker farms they may know what it is that I am talking about. I lost three chameleons about a month and a half back to contaminated crickets that I received from them. They were plagued with other bugs including tons of centipedes. I have researched this to find out that other bugs implies many problems including cleanliness. If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know. Were you able to take any action on the company and so on. Thanks

Kyle

((No)) I would contact the company and tell them what happened and see if there is anything they can do about it. Might be a long shot. I would switch who you got your bugs from. Most people buy from LLReptiles. I get them from a local pet store. But if you ask you can get alot of good recamendations for online bug stores :)

If the company won't do anything, then look into other options. (I'm not sure what can be done about it though)

Hmmm, I just bought some crickets from Petsmart (don't hurt me) and I noticed inside their cricket box was kind of small beetle or something ... a black bug about the size of a young cricket that could fly, albeit clumsily... You think thats really bad? Besides all the dead crickets in the bottom of the bin... I put them through detox for at least 48 hours before I feed them to my chams anyway, but I'm scared.

Eh I would say that they would be fine, sometimes there are a few beetles in the bins, but normally they don't pose any harm.

I buy mine from Zamzows, I give them carrots and greens over two days and then feed them to mine and they are always fine.

Cool. I give mine water and Fluker's cricket gut load for at least 2 days. I just got a couple of bins to see if maybe I can start breeding them and maybe some silkworms too (gonna be a pain).

I couldn't dream of breeding them, just the smell of the ones I have (I only buy 30 at a time) make me sick when I have to go near the container. lol. But they should be fine. I figure any sick ones will die before they are fed.

Two large angry Italians will be paying you a visit and they don't say much.

Honestly I stopped buying crickets from palces where I can't see how they are kept. I purchase my crickets from Amazon Reptile center, the crickets are kept in clean containers and I normally never see any additional bugs in with them.

Just to be on the safe side I wait 48 hours before I use any of my crickets, I gut load them with greens, cereals (rice crispes), and sometimes a little apple.

I have switched back to Ghann's crickets which is who I was with before. They have very clean feeders and I never have any problems anymore. Looking back I never should have switched. It cost me one hundred times more than what I was saving on a shipment. I will contact flukers but I really doubt that they will do anything. I didn't save the chams and I don't know that there is really any way to prove it.

I use ghanns too and theyre awesome. Awesome very clean, boxes are professionally packed and they even throw in free heat packs if the weather is questionable.

I have purchased from LLL Reptile. wasn't happy with the service because the crickets come from the east coast and LLL is the middle man..... my order was messed up a couple of times and i would get a bunch of DOAs in the mix.

I have also purchased from Mullberry farms. They aren't CLOSE to me... but I can drive there after work and make it in time to pick up a box. 1000 for $15 plus free silkies is worth the two hour round trip drive.

I purchased from american cricket ranch and was not happy at all. my crickets never showed up... so i called a few times and finally they sent me another batch because it had been a week... and if they did show up im sure they would be dead. The crickets that did arrive in the second shipment looked very nice. But service is a priority for me. maybe i'll order from them one more time just to see if they fail or pass....

BTW I also find beetles mixed in with my crickets. sometimes they fly sometimes they walk. I just throw them outside. and like ralph said, i wait a day or so before i feed my crickets to my chams. i gut load with flukers, greens, apples, carrots and a water dish.
