Bamboo stick puncturing the screen.

I bought these bamboo sticks from home depot and they are ruining the new enclosure. What are some alternatives ? And how can i patch these up .

I use dowel rods and hold them in with thumb tacks. I've used a hot glue gun to repair the screens.

1. drill hole in bamboo
2. sick some gardening wire trough the hole.
3. tie wire to screen.
4. ?????
