Basking light question

I just purchased a year old veiled chameleon . The guy that I bought her from had her basking light on a timer for 12hours a day. Is this sufficient or should I leave the light on all the time? Thanks for any advice.

12 hrs is good. They should not have any lights at night as it disturbs their sleep. They also need drops in temp at night to slow their metabolism.

Thank you for the advice . I am new to chameleon keeping and have found this site very helpful . Thanks again . Chuck

This site provides a wealth of knowledge. Be sure to search and explore. Also look up the blogs written by jannb and sandrachameleon.......so much info your head will spin.

I basically go with lights on at sun up and off at sun down. When it is dark outside then I turn the cage lights off. I have them on longer in the summer months when the days are longer and less in the winter when the days are shorter.
