I am interested to hear how people are using spirulina and bee pollen in their gutloads. Are you adding it to a pre-made commercial gutload or making your own? Other than spirulina and bee pollen, are you adding any other powdered goodies?

Thanks in advance!!

I listened to a podcast from a leading scientist and researcher of Jackson's Chameleons. He was saying how I the wild Jackson's usually perch over flowers and catch the bees and wasps that pollinate the flowers . He went on saying how a lot of times he sees chsmeleons in captivity lacking the pollen and even went as far as saying gif you gitloaded your feeders with pollen and or dusted the that the chances of them developing illnesses was very small.

So I went to gnc and got pollen capsules. I break one open and add it to the calcium and herptivite powder that I dust his hornies and crickets with. My guy absolutely loves the hornworms and I think likes his food even more with the pollen dust on them. I do 1 capsule to ½tsp calcium and ½ tsp herptivite.

Honey is such an amazing natural resource for so many things so it does not surprise me that some of those qualities come out in the raw pollen too. I'm excited to get started with this and see if I can notice any changes!

I use Bug Buffet as my base dry gut load and I often add extra pollen, spirulina, flax, sunflower seeds and other dry ingredients to that depending on what I have on hand at the time. That's not touching on my wet gut load indreidents.

I started mixing ground pollen into my plain calcium a few months ago as well for dusting crickets and roaches. I don't think it's something you can offer too much of.

Im not 100% sure but i think bee pollen has a lot of protein in it. But i know that spirulina is rich in vitamin a and a couple of b vitamins. Dont use to much spirulina but alfalfa is an amaxing gut load ingredient.

I loved that podcast episode! I think I am going to try it soon!

I ordered a pound of bee pollen as soon as I listened to that episode! Great podcast, their explanation for why pollen is likely consumed often in the wild made so much sense I could hardly believe I hadn't read much about it before. I just started using it yesterday.

Hi. What podcast channel is it?

I have spirulina and bee pollen but I’m not entirely sure how often to feed my Jackson’s chameleon dusted crickets

You put whatever you’re dusting with in a cup, jar, bag, container, etc. and put the feeders in, shake up the container (don’t let the feeders escape) until the feeders are lightly dusted, then feed them off. Also, start your own thread
