Behold!

[Hisserdude]

Nocticola sp. "Malaysia". This is currently the smallest roach species in culture, with adults maxing out at around 4 mm. They can be quite prolific, and females pump out oothecae like crazy, (though they only contain around three eggs each).

Elliptorhina davidi. Got a trio of nymphs from Brandon Maines at Magnificent Beasts of this finicky but beautiful hisser species! Nymphs have a very fiery coloration, I love it!
Unfortunately one of the two females died randomly as a subadult, random nymph die offs are unfortunately quite commonly reported in this species, and these die offs are why they've remained so rare in culture for years. However, my remaining pair has matured, and I'm looking forward to hopefully breeding this species myself!

Lucihormetica grossei. "Mega Glowspot roaches". Mine have bred successfully, which is awesome, here are some pictures of the adults and their offspring.

Hemithyrsocera palliata, "Pallid sun roach" (I have TONS of these BTW, in case anyone is interested in this species):

Perisphaerus pygmaeus, the "Roly-Poly roach". Adult females and nymphs can roll up into balls to defend themselves, much like roly poly isopods in the genus Armadillidium. The very short lived adult males are fully winged and lack this ability.

How many different species are you working with?

Working with 21 species right now, but I used to have twice as many. Hoping to keep building the collection up, there are LOTS of species to collect LOL, around 200 species available to the US hobbyist, if you know where to look.

Wow, I am loving those Pallid sun roaches!! Very interesting hobby to have!

Yeah, one of the flashier species in the hobby, and diurnal to boot!

I got some pics of my orange heads swarming, they were attacking my hand before I even finished placing the food.

The dubia are finally becoming bolder too.

Haven't seen them for months and they had the most dainty appetite of all the roaches up to now.

They can now start getting more than three pieces of dog food every few days.

Here's something you don't see often, hissers basking. They are one of the few roach species that will actively make use of a basking spot. Females sometimes point their abdomen at it, but I have yet to see that.

There were more, but they took offense to me approaching them for a picture.

Well I caught a female basking, she's heating her abdomen.

You can see she's clearly pointing her abdomen at it, you can also see some babies basking, they do have a heat pad area as well, so they are choosing to bask.

Got some video of the orange heads eating mealworm pupae. They love it.

There are crickets breeding in my dubia bin.

Here are my orange heads eating leftover mice that the snakes didn't want.

They are so useful as a leftover disposal.


The mice are already dead, the roaches are so enthusiastic they they move them around.
