Better than crickets?

I have a chameleon "Jack" who is challenged. He is unable to climb he has been checked for MBD and is ok. I have been feeding him dusted crickets in a special tipped cup for him but he still has a hard time finding the top of the cup to get the crickets. I have and still try greens(not interested) but was wondering if there is another insect that can be fed in a lower bowl that could be his staple diet. I feed mealworms but am not sure if they can be the staple part of his diet. Any feed back would be helpful. Jack is a veiled chameleon.

I know it's a pain in the butt, but will he eat if you grab something with tweezers and put it against his mouth? If he's having a hard time eating maybe hand feeding (or at least some food) will give you some guarantee that he's eating something. And then in adition leave extra in his cup. Hornworms are great, as are butterworms, and supers, but silkworms can be a little hard to keep.
